Greetings from sunny south Florida! I served on this great ship from 1989 through 1991. Had the greatest time during the Gulf War. War makes men of us all! I spent time on the USS Hue City and then at the NAV/BRIG CCU Pensacola. By far, the best part of my career was on Wisconsin. I am proud to forever be called a "Battleship Sailor"!!! Comments from Dom: Most former
crewmembers that served on other ship's say the Wisconsin was the best ship that
they served on. You are correct,

Nauticus is great as well. My oldest son and I spent the night aboard the USS Massachusetts with his cub scout pack this past summer. What a thrill! Will the Wisconsin ever be open for events like this? Jonathan Fredette, Northfield N.H. Comments from Dom: Jonathan, From what I understand, once the Navy releases the Wisconsin to Nauticus, Nauticus in time, will open the ship and sleep overs.

Also fought on the ship's boxing team and won the Atlantic Fleet Championship for Battleships, Cruisers Atlantic fleet. The last fight I had to win the title was against a marine who was a golden glove champion from New Jersey and he was station on the New Jersey (BB62) I think}. Also rode through hurricane Hazel on her in the middle of the Atlantic. Would like to attend the next reunion. Comments from Dom: Rudy, How about signing up for our Crewmembers list. Better still, how about joining our Wisconsin Family. I was also on board for the collision. I don't think we will ever forget that day.
CommentsOn board Jan 9, 51 till fall of 52. Precious memories, 4 years today we rode our beloved ship into Nauticus. Part of my heart was left there. Am still very active in ministry, writing, music, world wide prayer ministry, Learned many lessons on board Wisconsin, Wife in nursing home, taking care of her. We are Blessed of the Lord. Comments from Dom: Howard, I can't believe it's four years since we rode the ship. Where does the time go. Hope all is well for your wife.

I was only 6 years old when it happened but I can still remember it as if it were yesterday. So once again THANK YOU ALL .MAC Comments from Dom: Well said! May they never be forgotten!
CommentsEvery time I see photos or action footage of the Wisconsin either in action of or not it give me such a feeling of pride, I get the chills! It’s a shame she is too large to make it home to Wisconsin for her final resting place…when ever that take place. Comments from Dom: Dennis, Looks like her resting place will be beside the Nauticus in Norfolk, her home port.
Comments5 Dec 2004 Captain Jerry Blesch visiting former crew members residing in Las Vegas. I have invited several politicos and many others. I have printed out several pictures from our Web site. Art Comments from Dom: Art, hope everything went well.
Comments
I never served on board BB64 , however I was on board a tug boat ATF 72 that pulled targets for BB 64 in the mid 1950 s . We also towed targets for the other big 3 battle ships . What an honor to have served with such grand ships. I was a young sailor then serving the US NAVY and loving every minute of it. I pulled my 20 years and retired as GMMC in 1972. God bless the USN and all the fine people who have served aboard UNITED STATES SHIPS.
CommentsMissing everyone for many years. Hope everyone is fine. God bless and happy holidays Comments from Dom: Steven, hope some of your former crewmembers contact you. Why not sign up for our crewmembers list?

I would like to share some pictures of him and fellow mates, I also have copies of the Badger, the ships newspaper, I believe, one is dated 10 Nov 51, Headlines, 'Whisky' Pulls into Pearl Today, I also have two of the ships dinner menus, one is for Thanksgiving dinner and the other is Christmas Day, both dated 1951. Please let me know if I can share them with this beautiful Web site. Keep up the great work. Thanks Wm Boswell III Comments from Dom: Bill, I will contact you via email.
CommentsDom and wife have one of the best military sites. Keep up the good work because as we get older we remember how LUCKY we were to ride aboard the best looking ship in any country's Navy. When Lt. Cdr. Elmo Zumwalt's son passed away year back I sent him a sympathy card and he answered-I still have the reply. We can say that one of our Wisky Division officers made it all the way tothe top--CNO. I am now 77 years , retired, have had seven heart bypasses, back operation and now am embarking on fighting the big one--prostate problems. Best wishes to all my shipmates ,1951 to 53 , who made my time aboard the ship something I will never forget--On Wisconsin--Gene Comments from Dom: Gene, thanks for the compliment. Sorry to hear about all your medical problems. Just remember, you are a Battleship Sailor, and they don't make them tougher than that. Our prayers are with you.
CommentsI just met a Wisconsin sailor last week. I was wearing my USS Radford cap, the DD I was on in the 60s. He launched right into a sea story about when Wisconsin lost two engines, on that last trip home from the gulf in 91, I think, and made Norfolk dragging two screws, running 23 knots. Lost another and came in on one. We should all wear our caps, and get free sea stories every day. Comments from Dom: Those caps will do it all the time. The jackets also receive a lot of attention.
CommentsMy grandfather Oscar Meadors,Jr., served on the Wisconsin during WWII. The ship was commissioned on his birthday and he was on it through the end of the war. I'm trying to find a copy of the PBS special done on the ship for a Christmas present to him. Would anyone know where I can order that? Thanks to all the men and women who served on this ship and in all branches of the military! Comments from Dom: Will send you an email.
CommentsI was fortunate to be able to document BB-64 from Mothballs in Philadelphia to her sea trials in Mississippi to her decommissioning in Norfolk. I am now retired from the Navy Reserves and The Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel and now work for SBC. The Navy is not the same without the battleships and the Wisconsin was the best. Comments from Dom: Hi Lynn, I have seen your name on many of the ship photos in the DOD site. You have some great shots and I have used some for our website. If you have any photos that you would like to share with us, I would be more than happy to add them to our website. I agree with you, Battleships should be part of our current navy. I am proud to say that I had the opportunity to serve aboard the BEST!!
CommentsI served in the uss wisconsin from dec 90 to may 91 right during dessert storm and desert shield. I was assigned to the third deck division and afterwards after leaving the ship for decommisioning, I became a personnelman. Anyone out there that remembers me. I would like to talk to you Comments from Dom: Bert, how about signing on to our crewmembers list. Click on the crewmembers button on the top of the page and fill out the form.
CommentsGreat ship - Great guys - Great times!!! Comments from Dom: You said it all Don!!! Sempre Fi
CommentsIn October 1958 I was on the USS Lowry DD770. We were in live guard station for BB 64, This was a Nato operation--We were in the storm that did major damage to a number of ships. Comments from Dom: Are you sure on this date? The Wisconsin was decommissioned in March, 1958.
CommentsSir, My father sailed on the battleship HMS Vanguard and was aboard her when our two ships sailed together on joint activities. He has long since gone and I know very little about this "union" other than he was invited aboard your ship for 'Sun Downers' when the sun was over the yardarm. If any one can remember the date of the joint venture I would be very grateful. This year (September 2004) my wife and her father - and myself of course! visited the Wisconsin and I used the time on your wonderful vessel to try to imagine what it would have been like for my father. Keep the flag flying and I hope to revisit in the not too distant future. Barry Etchells Comments from Dom: Anyone have a date for this, please reply.
CommentsI’m Mark Brown from Oklahoma and I served on the Whisky from 4/89 to 5/91 in FA division. I miss all my friends and the memories we have getting qualified for the fleet and serving in Desert Shield/Storm. If anyone remembers me, email me anytime, it would be nice to hear from some of my old shipmates. Comments from Dom: Mark, how about signing up for our crewmembers list. That's one way to keep in touch with old shipmates. Go on to the Crewmembers page and fill out the form.
CommentsI was just wondering if anyone knows Joseph A. Martian, he served on the USS Wisconsin in the 2nd division from 1951 to 1954. He is/was my grandfather, but he passed away 5 years ago. I just wanted to know what he was like back then. If anyone knew him or served with him, please email me, I would be very gratetful. Comments from Dom: Anyone from 2nd Division that remembers Joseph Martian, please email Kerrie.
CommentsJust wondering if anyone remembers the USS Falcon (ASR-2)which was a submarine salvage ship that rescued most of the crew from the USS Squalus (SS 192) that sunk off the coast of Portsmouth, NH in 1939. My brother-in-law (Norman Rice) was on the Falcon when they rescued them. That was quite an operation and the crew of Falcon deserve a lot of credit. Comments from Dom: Hope you have received some reponses.
CommentsHappy Veterans day to all, and especially BB-64 Plankowners Comments from Dom: Hi Danny, Welcome! Have posted you on our Crewmembers page.
CommentsI served on the Wisconsin 1953-1955 in E division, Out of the power shop, My main work station was Turret two but before that I was stationed at a Naval Base in Algiers Louisana which is across the river from New Orleans. I was there from 1951 to 1953. I would like to exchange emails with anyone who might have been stationed there as I had quite a few friends that I have lost touch with. If you served there please write. George Comments from Dom: George, I hope by now you have gotten some responses.
CommentsGreat U.S. warship! I'd suggest: reactivate BB-64! I'm 8 miles from Pearl Harbor, a volunteer for BB-63. "They" think that the Missouri is the last Battleship. I saw the PBS "Wisconsin" The Last Battleship, 0210hrs. Hawaii Time. Information 100% correct. BB-64 is the last, (and longest) Battleship! My 'atta-boy', give em hell to all plank holders and crewmembers who served on B-64! I feel that America requires a kick-start in Patriotism. Reactivating "Whisky" would sure be worthwhile! N. Abercrombie will receive my request asap! Gunboat diplomacy, no overpowering firepower! Usama, eat your heart out! America FIRST - always! Comments from Dom: The keel of the Wisconsin was the last to be laid down. For some reason the Wisconsin was finished before the Missouri.
CommentsI JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES TO GO THRU THE PANAMA LOCKS JUST TELL ME Comments from Dom: It took the Wisconsin 10 hours to go through, narrower ships will go through faster.
CommentsI would like to hear from anyone who was in the B div from 1-25-46 to 1-13-48 thank you Comments from Dom: OK, B Div. how about welcoming Arthur to our family.
CommentsThanks for providing this interesting site. Brings back good memories. I served on USS Wisconsin during my 1/c midshipman cruise during summer, 1956. Was well treated by crew. Great adventure Comments from Dom: Eugene, how about signing on to our email list. We have several other midshipmen as members and/or emailers.
CommentsMy Uncle Averl Phifer was on the USS WISCONSIN from 1944-1945. He was a gunner. He is still living in Warsaw Virginia. I had his name put on the WW2 monument in Washington and he said he has a ashtray on the ship. He was very proud of being on board and he was able to be at the pier in Norfolk when she was at last docked there. I have been there to see it when I go to see family in Norfolk. Comments from Dom: thanks for adding your comments to our DeckLog. I hope you enjoy your visits to your Uncle's Ship.
CommentsI served aboard the Wisconsin from Sept 1989 to April 26 1991. Sn 3 Ortman Deck division.I looked for my name in the crew members section but it looks like it must just be plank owners I guess. I was proud to fight a war on her and would love to have my name down as a past crew member. I was a chok and chainman during flight quarters, lower left powder door operator in GQ, and worked a detail called tiger team tad to other divisions helping to do pqs on equipment that did not fall under any specific divisions responsibilities. I spent thousands of hours landing helos, eating and most nights sleeping between helicopters on those teak decks. At the time it seemed like hell, but I kinda miss it from time to time. I am most certainly proud to have been a part of it, and I love telling my five sons and daughter about it. Comments from Dom: Edward, the crewmember list is not a ship's roster. It is a list of those crewmembers who have either joined the Association or signed up just to have their email address posted. Hopefully they will join our Association at a later date. We would like to have you join as a member and at the very least sign up for our email list. Click on the Crewmembers button on the top of this page and click on the form. Any problems, contact me at dombb64@ptd.net
CommentsWhat a pleasure to access this sight and read all the comments about the experiences that the crew of the USS WISCONSIN have to say . I too was aboard her ,,and that was an experience that I will never forget . I am still finding friends that I served with from 53 to 56 . I get a chill every time I access the sight . Because it brings it all back to me and I relive it all over again as if I were still aboard her. My memories of my tour of duty aboard her were an experience that will go with me for as long as I live . Dom and the rest of you guys that keep this sight going I salute you all (KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK)----MAC Comments from Dom: Mac, glad you get that feeling every time you visit the site. That's what this site is all about, to help the guys relive their time aboard the Wisconsin.
CommentsI served aboard her from 87-91 and will never forget all I learned from the sailors I served with. What a wonderfull experience.... Comments from Dom: Sam, how about joining our Association and re-acquaint yourself with the sailors who served aboard her with you. We are a great Association and growing. Click on the Crewmembers button on the top of this page and fill out the form.
CommentsJust returned from Iraq some months ago. Was aboard the "Big W" in 2002. Will be going to visit her sister the Missouri in November. These ships represent a Navy many of us can only read about. Like a good friend and Navy Chief who served aboard the Iowa's in the 80's said to me..."You know you've been in the Navy a long time when your ship is a museum." He would know! All I can say about the Wisconsin is that she looks great for a girl 61 years young since commissioning in 43'... What class! Comments from Dom: Yes, she is a CLASSY LADY!! and we LOVE her!!.
CommentsI really enjoy visiting 'our' website! What memories have been shared are a joy to relive. Keep the pictures coming! I lost all of mine but 2 over the years. Thanks for sharing! Comments from Dom; Alan, Thanks to the guys for sending in these photos. Glad you enjoy "our" site.
CommentsYou really have a good web-site here. I wish that my ship's web-site:USS TOPEKA CLG-8, was half as complete as yours! Mike Fisher FTG-3 1962-66 Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment.
CommentsJust want people to know that I am still around. I am a construction Superintendent and still going to work every day, sometimes 6 days a week. I will be 76 yrs young on November 6th. We will be Married 52yrs, on November 23rd., and they said it would never last. Hope you are all well and still going strong. God Bless our Ship, our Shipmates and God Bless America and all of our young men and Women that are out there fighting to keep us SAFE and FREE. I remember that we were that age when we were doing the same for our Country. Your Shipmate Arnold Millman-R Div. Comments from Dom: Arnold, keep healthy and keep on working. If that's what keeps you young. so be it.
CommentsIs the Us Navy going to give up the last 2 iowa's any time soon? any talk about them coming back to fight? Comments from Dom: We all hope that the Navy will release the last two battleships within a reasonable time. Don't think they will ever be re-activated.
CommentsI am the grandson of John Frank, who served as Coxswain aboard the U.S.S. Wisconsin (BB-9) from 1917 - 1919. I have become the family docent in charge of maintaining the military history of my family, and truly appreciated your site, and the effort you make to retain it. Is it possible that I may add my grandfathers name to the memorial list? Thank you, Edward M. Frank 1Lt, USAF Comments from Dom: Edward, I'll email you about adding your grandfathers name.
Commentsto all the men and fellow brothers of my uncle who served the navy for over 30 years. thank you for defending my rights and the rights of all AMERICANS. I tried to serve but was refused because of double jointed knees. all I can give to our solders is support . GOD BLESS THEM ALL . THEN AND KNOW. CommentsI visited Norfolk last July for business purposes and took the opportunity to visit the ship. I also visited what I believe are the premises of your association and had a very interesting conversation with some gentlemen there. I am a part time history researcher and I am currently working on an article about USS Wisconsin. I might use some of the photographs from your site if it is ok with you. Great ship and great web site. Comments from Dom: Just let me know what photos you would like to use, and where. My email address is dombb64@ptd.net
CommentsMy wife and I will be going to Norfolk to visit the USS Wisconsin. Was on board in 1955 - EX division. We are staying at the Marriott downtown hotel. Is it close to the ship? I would guess walking distance. Comments from Dom: Roy, It's close, but it is a walk. Maybe 4 blocks. Enjoy your visit.
CommentsMy father William Fredrick Reynolds was a plank owner. He passed away Sept. 26, 2004 and buried with a honor guard. How would I go about placing his name on your list ? Thank you Comments from Dom: If you can email me his time aboard and division I will place his name on our In Memoriam page. Email me at dombb64@ptd.net
CommentsWhen and where is the next USS Wisconsin reunion? I wished I had known about the recent one in Nashville (which is where I live). I am trying to locate a cruise book for the years my uncle was on the USS Wisconsin -- Jan 1951 - August 1952. Your website is fabulous! Comments from Dom: Marilyn, Sorry you missed this last reunion. Thanks for the compliment on the site. What is your uncles name?
CommentsTO ALL CREWMEMBERS, INITIALLY I WAS PART OF S-1 WHEN I REPORTED ONBOARD, THEN TRANSFERRED TO S-2, WHILE ONBOARD, I AM NOT SURE IF IT WAS SCUTTLEBUTT OR IT WAS FOR REAL. BUT WE WERE TOLD THAT THE SAUDI GOVERNMENT WANT TO GIVE EACH MEMBER OF THE U.S. ARMED FORCES $10,000. ANY SHIPMATE REMEMBER THIS? He is so proud of his work on the ship. He attends all of the reunions. Glad you have produced this great piece of information and good memories I am proud of all who served aboard this magnificent battleship. Thank you. Comments from Dom:
Thanks for the compliment on the site. I met your uncle for the first time
at our 2002 reunion, and we had several conversations at our Nashville reunion
earlier this month.
CommentsI served on on the Wisconsin in 1946. Not sure of the exact dates. Noticed my name was not on the crew members list. Could you help me get my name added. I just found this web site. Great site. Thanks, Marv Comments from Dom: Marv, those members who are listed on the crewmembers list are those crewmembers who have contacted us advising that they served aboard our ship. Need to know what division you served in.
CommentsHi, My uncle was on the Wisconsin in WW2. He was always talking about the ship, he had the name tattoed on his arm and it is on his tombstone. I was telling my grandson about him and I realized that I didn't know what he did aboard ship, so if you could help me. His name was Frank Norman Davis,he must have been on her from the beginning, since he enlisted as soon as he could. If you could let me know what he did and when I would appreciate it, Thank you, Janice McFall
Comments from Dom: Janice,
sorry but we don't have a ship's roster, so there isn't anyway I can look him
up. You can send for his discharge papers. Log on to

CommentsHey, I am sorry I didn't get to make it back to the reunion. I was sure I would win one of those prizes. I guess it shows when you snooze you lose. CommentsI'm sorry but, who was the last captain of the USS Wisconsin? Comments from Dom: The last Captain was Conraad van der Schroeff.
CommentsA great site. An absolutely beautiful ship. This is the ultimate expression of the battleship type. Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment.
CommentsI served aboard the Wisky from 5/87 to 6/92, I worked in #3 Fireroom. It was a experience I will never forget. My Son has joined the Navy and is headed off to bootcamp, I can only hope he leaves the Navy with the pride in his country that I learned while serving aboard the Wisconsin. I had some great teachers who taught me everything I needed to know about steaming Boilers. Thanks for the website pictures they are a great source of background and screensaver material. Dom you have done a great thing here. thanks!!! Comments from Dom: Steve, how proud you must be of your son. Good luck to him in his Navy career. How about signing on to our Crewmembers list? Get in touch with those great teachers again. Thanks for the compliment on the site. Hope to hear from you soon.
CommentsI had my re-enilistment onboard today. My family and I wanted to say thank you for a great experience. Cant wait till the next one. Comments from Dom: Congratulations on your re-enlistment. You couldn't have picked a better place for your ceremony.
CommentsMy grandfather, Arthur C. Wells, served aboard the Wisconsin in WWII 1944-45. He just passed away August 17, 2004. I will always be proud of his and his shipmates service and sacrifices. Would you please add his name to your roster? thank you. Comments from Dom: Christopher, would you know what division your grandfather served in while he was aboard the Wisconsin? You can email me directly dombb64@ptd.net
Comments23 August 2004 I just completed my 1st visit to this wonderful website. Being ex-Navy, Radioman 2nd Class, WWII and Korea I treasure the memories I have of my Navy days. The WISCONSIN is special to our family because my wife's dear deceased brother served in the Wisconsin's Marine Detachment in the 1950's. I noted his name on your memorial page. His name is John J. Reiland. Another local man, John J. Sharkey (deceased) also served aboard the Wisconsin with Jack Reiland. They enlisted from Rockford, Illinois together and served their entire enlistments in the Wisconsin. Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment on the site. Was unable to find John Sharkey's name in any of our cruise books. Do you have more information on him? you can email me directly with any information dombb64@ptd.net
CommentsVery impressed with your site. Have been almost everywhere on it printing information for my Step Grandfather, James P. Campbell / K Division 43-45. Am taking him to see the Wisconsin. He has very vivid memories and talks of it all the time, many pictures at his home. He turns 90 on the 31st and is unable to do a drive from Wilmington, NC., So myself and a cousin are going to take him for the tour. I'm sure he is going to be in heaven. Thanks, Robert Bowers Comments from Dom: Hope you have a pleasant trip. Remember, the public is not allowed inside the ship. You can only walk her main deck and three decks above.
CommentsI am a huge fan of the Battleship navy. I am researching the history of Battleships and I noticed that the Wisconsin was the last battleship to ever fire her main guns in anger (feb-28,1991). Would anyone happen to know which Turret, which gun from that turret, and who was the gun Captain of that last firing? Comments from Dom: Ok, Third Generation Gunners Mates. This is your question. Can you help Bill with some answers. I would be interested in the answers also.
CommentsGreetings, I have a magazine put out by the Historical Society of Wisconsin in 1988, entitled..."The USS Wisconsin A History of Two Battleships". It is in excellent condition and contains 55 pages and measures approximately 10" x 7 1/2" and is full of the history and pictures of the battleship. If anyone is interested, I as asking $12 which would include postage to anywhere in the US. Thanks for your time and you have a great site. I served in the Army in Vietnam 1966-67. I also spent 30 days on board the troop carrier USNS General John Pope enroute to Cam Ranh Bay, RVN. If anyone wants a scan, I will provide it upon request. Comments from Dom: Nauticus at Waterside sells the same book. Very good and interesting history of the ship.
CommentsAye, Enjoyed your site, found it interesting and your photo's excellant. A fine record of a great Ship. From an ex Royal Navy seaman 1950- 1962. I wish they had payed me enough to buy a camera whilst I was serving. Though perhaps I blew my pay on other "essentials". Best Wishes and calm waters. Bogey Knight. Comments from Dom: Glad you enjoyed the site. Come back and visit us often.

the information that was on the certificate given to those that crossed at the
time. 21 SEP 1957: At 1950 this date, crossed the ARCTIC CIRCLE at 68 48'N & 07 00"E to enter the Northern Domain of the Polar Bear, and was duly initiated into the Royal Order of Blue Nose
CommentsWould you please check to see why Mr. Burnell F. Harner is not listed in your roster for crewmembers for the USS Wisconsin during 1946. He served as a fireman on board while in the Atlantic. Comments from Dom: Judy, If he is not a member of our Association or requested to be posted on our email list, then I wouldn't have any information about him. If he is deceased and we are notified as to division and time aboard, we can then post him to our In Memoriam page.

I am doing pretty good now and have a stint in my main artery (More to come). I am still trying to find out if I can attend the re-union or not in September. Has anyone heard from Margaret Mitchell?, She is (Was) a docent on the USS Wisconsin until recently I and was corresponding with her and all of a sudden lost touch. Comments from Dom: George, sure hope you are doing better at this time. I sent you an email pertaining to Margaret.
CommentsWhat an outstanding website. I served in the Navy for six years and the best eighteen months of my hitch were spent on the decks of Wisconsin. This site brings back a lot of good memories. Keep up the good work. Comments from Dom: Hi John, have added you to our crewmembers list. Many of our career former crewmembers tell me their best time in the Navy was aboard the Wisconsin.

CommentsDom, Thank you for all your work on this site. I just spent another enjoyable hour or so with my wife going thru the pictures and comparing the ships multiple configurations during the years. Diane gets such a kick out of the pictures of the ship. Thanks again!! "Red sky at night." Ken Comments from Dom: Ken, Thanks for the compliment on the site. If it wasn't for the crewmembers who sent in the pictures, this site would not be what it is today. Since you are I served around the same time and in the same division, it's a great feeling to go through the pictures and reminisce about our time aboard. Can't believe it's 48 years since I left the ship.

What was the Wisconsins radio code name during WW II Thank you Rick Emord Comments from Dom: Rick, don't know what the call letters were. I hope some of our 40's radio men came to your rescue. When you finish your model, how about sending us some photos. Good Luck in the building of our ship.
CommentsHi Anyone! I am trying to get hold of the USS Wisconson Cruise Book 1952/53. My Father, Frank R Johnson, SS Div, is listed with photo in this book. As I don't have any photo's of him, it would be great to get hold of the book. I'd also like to make contact with anyone who served in the SS Div from 1952-55. I would be so grateful to hear from someone who can help. I live in Germany, so it's difficult for me to get any information about him. Thank you so much! Best wishes Marie Comments from Dom: Marie, There just aren't any of these cruise books available. Hopefully someone has contacted you.

Comments from Dom: Jake, Would love to do all of that. 16" have no power, they have to be hand cranked. As far as putting back the CIWS, that's up to the Hampton Roads Naval Museum to pursue it. CommentsGreat site, as a former US Marine (74-78) I wish I had been on sea duty aboard an Iowa Class battleship. But they were in moth ball then. Will visit this site often. Semper Fi Comments from Dom: You are alw me to visit us.
CommentsMy youngest Brother Wilson N. Smith was on the Wisconsin during the Gulf War. He passed away in 1991 and many of the photos you have on the website are similar to ones that he took and sent to me. It is great that our servicemen are honored this way so we are all able to see what our Military personnel do in their day to day lives. Great website I have enjoyed it very much. I also have a flag that was given to me at Wilson's funeral that had flown over the Wisconsin which holds a very special place in my home and my heart. Thank you to all the Servicemen from Wilsons era to my Fathers WWI and before and after Comments from Dom: Cathy, Thanks for sharing this with us. Come back and visit us often.

CommentsGreetings! My father-in-law was Walt Healy 43-46. He was a fireman. My wife Patti was very close to her dad, but didn't know much about his time in the Navy. I'm a history buff and when I found out he served on BB-64 I was very impressed. I knew the history which I shared with my wife and Walt's wife Mary (who is still very much alive)which they knew nothing of just this last memorial day. Walt never talked about it and they had no idea of how important of a role the BB-64 had in history. Walt's grandsons are now learning all about it also. Well as you see I started looking on the internet for more info. I'm so proud to see his name and know you remember him here! If you know anyone who knew him or could share a story, we would love to hear from them. My address is: Lavaaron Davis 22 Pinecrest Drive Yutan, NE 68073 402-625-2821 Home 618-4442 Cell Comments from Dom: Glad you logged on to our site. If anyone remembers Walt Healy, please email or call Lavaaron Davis.

This form will list his time aboard the ship and other information. Once you have that information, email me at dombb64@ptd.net and I will add your Dad's name to our In Memoriam page.
CommentsThank you for preserving this tremendous ship. We brought my mother and two teenage sons from Wisconsin to visited it in April of 2004. Each of us was awed by the ship and the effort it must have taken to keep it in such beautiful shape. This trip was especially meaningful to my mother since it was the first time she had attempted to travel after breaking her hip. Thank you for making it possible for her to see most of the ship in a wheel chair. Best regards, Ken Chritton Comments from Dom: We have to thank Hampton Road Naval Museum for the effort in making the ship handicapped available and for keeping it in such magnificent ship. The docents also do a great job in presenting the ship to the public. Glad you enjoyed your trip.
CommentsJust now watched the PBS show regarding the Wisconsin and thought I would see what else I could learn about it. Needless to say, I am so impressed by this truly amazing web site. On this Memorial Day 2004, God Bless each and everyone of you who have sacrificed for my democracy. Words cannot express my heartfelt thanks. The emotions I have experienced this weekend watching the dedication for the Memorial have been many. I thank you all once again. Comments from Dom: Thank you for your very kind words. We try to make this website as informative as possible. The PBS video is one of the better videos pertaining to the ship. I have a copy of it but I still watch it whenever it is on PBS. Thanks again for stopping by.
CommentsI have really missed our ship lately as my career comes to a close (4 left). I get down to Waterside as often as I can since I am still stationed at NOB. I've always hoped that they would bring her back one last time, but I'm sure they would never find the money. I noticed a note from E.F. Chestnut, one of my gun crew during the Gulf War. I try to keep up with as many shipmates as I can. Anyone out there who remembers those long watches in Mount 52, drop me a line. Those days will always be my fondest memories of my naval career. I recently finished a tour on the USS Whirlwind, doing my best during this war, but nothing beats the firepower we unleashed from our Battleship. Take care and remember all of our brothers and sisters who have given the ultimate price for our freedoms during this Memorial Day. We owe our best efforts to all that have come before us and to all who will follow. Comments from Dom: Danny, now you know how the guys from the 40's and 50's feel about the ship. This ship will never get out of our systems, she will be part of us for the rest of our lives. That was a nice dedication to our Armed Forces personnel. Thank you for serving our country.
CommentsLoved touring on this ship in Norfolk. Took 17 rolls of film... Loved it. Comments from Dom: 17 rolls, WOW!!. Glad you enjoyed it.

CommentsHello USS Wisconsin Shipmates, Vikki asked about USS Wisconsin (BB 64) t-shirts or baseball caps with the ship's logo. I don't know about the logo, but I did recently see a great photo of the ship on T-shirts, Greeting Cards, Postcards and more recently on the Internet. The photo is of the battleship's 60th Anniversary with USS Teddy Roosevelt Sailors manning the rails. Check it out at: http://www.cafepress.com/freedomexpress6 Feel free to pass this on to others if you'd like. I think you can get $5 off any purchase of $20 or more with this coupon code: GARBLEBOUGH (and I think it's good through 24 May). Enjoy, JOC (Ret) Bill Johnson-Miles
Comments from Dom: Bill, perhaps before she checks
out the site you mentioned, she should check out our Ship's Store page. We

CommentsThank you to Carl Capestrain, RADM Kavanaugh, and the rest of the USS Wisconsin Foundation for your assistance in honoring my dear friend and mentor, Rev. Gordon Gustafson. As I mentioned in a previous posting, Gus is an original plankowner of the Wisky who was scheduled to be my guest speaker at my retirement this Friday (5/14/04). Unfortunately, his health concerns prevent his attendance here, but we were able to visit Gus and June in FL and present him with many USS Wisconsin mementoes which left him speechless. Thanks again for your preservation of this historical treasure, an excellent web site, and your assistance in obtaining the gifts for Gus. I am deeply honored and grateful to be "piped ashore" from the USS Wisconsin. Yours in our country's service, Kevin Tillett Comments from Dom: Kevin, Congratulations on your retirement yesterday. Glad he received our Association's membership packet that we had sent to RADM Kavanaugh. Again, congratulations and good luck in the future.

If you click on # 504 & 505 you will see two of our t-shirts with the ship on it. As for hats, click on #450. Any problems, you can email me direct at dombb64@ptd.net
CommentsI am pleased to see that our records and contact information is being kept in Ship shape condition. After my extended 36 years in Police/Intl. Law Enforcement/CMA/Security, etc. I still enjoy working part time here in Phoenix Arizona for Securitas in the Security Profession, Comments from Dom: Did you serve aboard the Wisconsin?
CommentsTo All, After 22 years in the Navy, 18 months of which were on Wisconsin, I have retired and am now working at the Dallas VA Hospital in the Medical Media Department (photographer). Any Battleship sailors that are in the area are welcome to drop by. Dom, I won't be able to attend the reunion but I look forward to hearing the stories. Thanks for a great job as historian. Comments from Dom: Congratulations on your retirement. Good Luck on your new job. Looks very interesting. Sorry you can't make this reunion, perhaps the next one.
CommentsGreat site. I served onboard in 91-92. Still miss her today. I have the original damage control books left to me by a retired master chief. who would I talk to about getting them back onboard where they belong? Comments from Dom: Randy, I served aboard her 1952-1956 and boy do I still miss her. Don't see your name on our crewmembers list. Would you like to join. All information is on the home page. I'll email you about the books.
CommentsYou have a great site, I produce fiberglass model ship hulls, mainly in 1:96 scale, I started making the Iowa class hulls back in 1982 and have produced over 300 of these 111" long hulls that are now in Naval Museums around the world. I have built the USS new Jersey as in 1984 and my son and I will start reactivation work on the 1945 USS Wisconsin model this summer, I started this model 18 years ago and put it on a shelf, now its time to get back to it. I found the photos really helped fill in many areas where I have lost my own photos over the years. I was a Naval Architect Tech. in the Battleship Division at Long Beach Naval Shipyard from 1981 til 1989. W.L. Upshaw The Scale Shipyard Long Beach, CA. Comments from Dom: Check out your site, www.scaleshipyard.com was very impressed. I'm sure some of our model builders will be interested. I will link to your site as I do get requests for ship models. If it is not too much trouble, when you commence building the Wisconsin model, would it be possible to email me pictures of work in progress. My email is dombb64@ptd.net Thanks Bill
CommentsWhat a fantastic website! My father, Edward G. Clauss served aboard the "Whisky" during WWII, manning the aft quad forties, and as a member of the underwater demolition squad. I can't wait to show him your site. Please keep up the good work, and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR GREAT COUNTRY!!! Comments from Dom: How about signing your Dad up for membership in our Wisconsin Family. All information and forms are on our homepage. Thanks for your great compliment.
CommentsDom In answer to your question, if you will bring up the history of the USS Saint Paul and about half way down the page you will find the answer she had that nick name and if you will Email me personally I will tell you why. I first went aboard her in early 1945 before she left for the Pacific. I left her in early 1947 and was released from service, called back in 1950 and again was on the USS St Paul or as we called her the Snookie Poo. Carl Comments from Dom: There seems to be a few sites with the history of the St. Paul. I read two of them and could not find reference to Snookie Poo. Email me at dombb64@ptd.net
Commentsso, when will they ever bring any of the iowa's back? and if they did which one's would it be? and whats the odd's? YN1(SW) 1991 TO 2011 Comments from Dom: I don't think we will ever see the Iowa's back on active duty.
CommentsThat morning was one of the 2 best experiences in my career in the US NAVY sure I was cold but it did not matter manning the rails that day was a dream come true for me just like it was months before when I was granted the honor of being able to fly off of my ship, USS Enterprise on April 15,2001 to be able to do colors onboard Wisconsin on her commissioning anniversary of April 16, and shortly after that I got back on a plane and flew back onboard the Enterprise the same day. I would have never guessed my last underway period would have been on board the USS Wisconsin because almost a month from that day I would have career destroying medical accident and now I am unfortunately retired only after 6 years of service but thanks to Admiral Kavanuagh and Captain Sears at least I can say I was underway on the USS Wisconsin and part of her crew. Comments from Dom: Sorry to hear about your accident. That was really a cold, cold day in December when you manned the rails. It was a wonderful experience and one that I will never forget. Thanks for sharing with us.
CommentsI served onboard the U.S.S. Independance CVA-62 October 1966 thru September 1969. Our primary operating area was the mediterranean Sea during the 7 day Arab-Israel War and other hotspots during that time. 2 Mediterranean cruises, a NATO cruise, and deployment in various duties from homeport in Norfolk, Virginia. Thank you for a great website, and god bless you and the USA. Comments from Dom: Thanks for sharing your Navy experiences with us. Also, thanks for the compliment on the website.
CommentsWhy am I not listed as a crew member? I served 1951-1954 aboard the Wisconsin. I would like to purchase a cap. Please respond. Comments from Dom: Frank, Only those crewmembers who asked to have their email address posted and/or those who joined the Wisconsin Association are list. If you would like to join, please click here Membership Application, to have only your email address posted click the following Email
CommentsDom, one of the pictures of your ship running side by side with the destroyer Buck and my ship the St. Paul is one of the best I was on the Snookie Poo that day. Again a great web site brings back many memories. Carl Comments from Dom: Carl, one question: What is the Snookie Poo? Thanks for the compliment on the site.
CommentsI went into the USS Wisconsin web site a few years ago. At that time, I just saw the history of the ship. Recently I have been wondering about a reunion. Last year I met a past crew member from the New Jersey in Las Vegas, he was attending their reunion. I just looked at the Memoriam page and was saddened to see some shipmates I served with. Comments from Dom: Welcome Aboard!! I am waiting for extra copies of our reunion packet. As soon as I receive them I will mail your reunion packet along with your new membership packet.
CommentsSon of Russell K. Carr (1944-1945)Electician's Mate. Both parents are alive and well. They lived in Texas for about 45 years; are now retired and living in Washington state. Comments from Dom: Thanks for visiting us. Please give my best to your parents.
CommentsMy grandfather served on the Wisconsin during the 40's. Clarence Eugene Hamlett. I'm trying to look up his past so I can understand my history. I'm hoping I can find information somewhere. I figure sites like this are a start. Thanks Comments from Dom: We don't have a roster for any of the years. The 40's cruise book never listed names. What a shame! Hopefully some one remembers him and contacts you.
CommentsI served aboard 43 - 45 and am looking for a copy (to purchase) of the yearbook that was offered for sale after the war - around 45 or 46. It has a dark blue cover and is in a yearbook format. It is about 1/2 inch thick with cover. Do you know of any for sale or copies of it? Thank you for looking into this for me. E.A. (Bud) Guidry (association member) Comments from Dom: Bud, I sure hope some one has an extra copy for you.
CommentsMy father, who passed away in 1981, served in the Navy in WWII from 1943-1947 and always had a picture of a Battleship on the wall. Recently, I found his discharge papers and one of the ships he served on was the picture he had; the USS Wisconsin. I estimate he was aboard the Wisconsin around 1945-1947. His name was Tibor R. Illes and went by 'T.R.' or 'Lucky' and was an Electricans Mate 2nd Class. I would appreciate hearing from anyone that knew him. Thank You Comments from Dom: Hopefully someone remembers him and contacts you.
CommentsWas at the ship 4/15/04 boy did she look good, getting fresh paint in spots and flags everywhere! Was going to try to make it 4/16 for the 60th but traffic out of D.C. was bad. Hoping for some good pics from Dom. Comments from Dom: Jim, we just missed you. We were aboard from about 1PM and in Nauticus until about 3PM. Are you coming to our reunion with the kids in September?
CommentsA Great web site from a cruiser sailor USS Saint Paul CA 73 Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment. I served in the 50's and at times we maneuvered with the St. Paul
CommentsDear Sirs, My name is Jonathan Cagle Sr. and my father was onboard the USS Wisconsin during WWII. His name was Oscar Theron Cagle and I think he was a radar technician. I had an absolutely wonderful photo of him and his shipmates under the big guns and seated. Can you please give me any information on him? My folks were divorced when I was very young, and I really didn't know my dad very well. I have always held a special place in my heart for all you heros of the war. My son is now in the US Navy, and is in Groton CT now in "A" school because he's proud of his grandfathers service on the Wisconsin, even though he didn't know him. Thank you, and God bless. John Cagle Sr. Comments from Dom: Sorry, but I do not have any information on your father. Hopefully, some of our crewmembers who frequent this decklog will remember him and contact you.
Commentskick-ass site Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment.

Please Help Me. My grandfather was a Marine cook, grandmother says he served briefly in 1951 on the Wisconsin. He passed away in 1996 and I wish I knew him better and am researching all I can about him, he
is not on your crewmembers list and if he was on the Wisconsin I would like to get him on that list. If you can help me with this or any other info. on Harold Richard Haggerty, Staff Sgt. It would be deeply appreciated. On an other note great web site very informative, grandmother will like to know
if the Wisconsin is a museum, perhaps we can visit her some day. Comments from Dom: Gabe, there was a SSgt H. Haggerty aboard the ship in 1951. I will email you with additional information. Thanks for the compliment on our site. As for the ship , it is not a museum but you can go aboard and walk her main deck and three decks above. The public can not go inside the ship, she is still Navy Property.
CommentsHI DOM AND LIL, PLEASE NOTE THAT IN MEMORIAM (MENTIONED BEFORE) THAT LOUIS LINQUIST IS VERY LIKELY LOUIS LINQUATA OF GLOUCESTER MASSACHUSETTS. IF NOT HE SHOULD BE ADDED. WAS ON BOARD 51 TO 56, IN THE 4HT OR 1ST DIV. THE SITE CONTINUES TO IMPROVE WITH A GOOD AND VARIED DATA BASE. I SURF A LOT AND I WOULD BE HARD PRESSED TO COME UP WITH A BETTER VET ASSOCIATION SITE. LOU Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment on the site. As for the confusion with the two names, you are probably right. I believe I informed you in the past, that the name, Louis Linquist was on the In Memoriam list when Lil and I took over this job. We do not have any documents with either name. I will add the name Louis Linquata.

Retiring in 1990, i immediately joined several groups as a volunteer. I mentored PK-2 for 5 years. I now spend most of my time at our local historical museum. My favorite is the early (1516-1836)
history of our state.
I served on the USS South Dakota and the USS Alabama before joining the USS Wisconsin as she arrived in the Pacific.
Presently, I am trying to account for my grandchildren, the whole sequence of events in which I had a part.
I can't believe the excellence of your web-site!
I have one complaint. I did not find any reference to the ship or it's history in any of the State promos. Thank you,
Walter

Gere Comments from Dom: Gere, The name does not strike a bell with me. Hope someone out there remembers him and contacts you. See you in September.
CommentsI just came through on a whim. My father was a crew member on the Wisconsin, Eric Ritter, FC2. I'll never forget watching him when the Wisconsin came into the Nauticus, and the sun was rising and the tugs gave the salute. And I remember all of the veterans showing their family members and friends where they had worked, and what they remembered. I admire the crewmen and my father's pride in the Wisconsin. She still as strong and as beautiful as ever. Anchors away. Comments from Dom: Tory, Thanks for finding us. That was a memorable day for all of us who served on our ship.
CommentsEXCELLENT!! Very interesting and informational. Comments from Dom: Glad you enjoyed the site.
CommentsHello all. I am hoping that you can help me out. I am trying to put together a memory book for my husband from his days in the navy. I have found one pic of him on this site and want to thank who ever sent it in. His name is E. F. Chestnut. He is in picture # 248 in the 1980-1990 album. He is on the far left in the front. I was wondering if anyone had any other pics of him or remembers him from his days on the USS Wisconsin. He went on board in May of 90, and was there until she was decommissioned. If you remember him or have any pics of him please contact me. I know he would love to hear from any one who knew him then. Thanks in advance for all your help and God bless and keep you all!!! CommentsHi My Father Howard M. Gerg was a plank owner. In 1988 I had the honor to go with him to the re-comm in Ms. What a day ! My father took me into the guns showing me how they operated. The day leaves me with many memories and pictures that I have from that day. Sad to say that my dad past away in 1992. last Sep 02 I was in the area and my brother who is retired BM from the Navy went and visited the ship in Norfolk He also works for Moran Towing the tug company that brought her to her berth there The ship is beautiful that day as it was in 1988 It's almost a shame that this ship will probably never sail again no justice to her being a tourist attraction I am sure she would serve this country as she built for. Thanks for you time Take good care of her as she took care of her sailors Tom Comments from Dom: Tom, We have your Dad listed on our In Memoriam page. Thanks for sharing your experience and memories that you have of your Dad and the ship. Yes, we will take good care of her.

CommentsDom and Lil, Since we live only about 130 miles from the Wisky, Doris and I ride up there once in a while take a picnic lunch and sit at the table in the handicapped parking lot and i tell her all about the things that happened while i was onboard during the early 50's while having lunch. Thanx for all of the good work that you do with the site. We enjoy it very much. Doris is cancer free now, but, of course, she has to take tamoxifen for 5 yrs. Good chatting. Best regards, Ashley Comments from Dom: Hi Ashley and Doris, Glad to hear the good news about Doris. We think of her often. What better way is there than to have a picnic lunch with the BB64 in the background. Hope to see you at the reunion.

CommentsHey Dom, Greetings from south FLA!!! I was out the other day shopping with the wife when I was approached by a gentleman asking me about my hat. I was wearing my Wisconsin Ballcap (what else!). He asked if I had served onboard her or not. With my chest puffed out I told him that not only did I serve onboard her but I was a plankowner! After that we talked for about 20min about the Great Whisky! He was a marine and had served onboard her during Korea. He, like I, had enjoyed his time with her. Well, I then gave him the web address and told him that there are more of US out there and please join us and share your stories. When we parted he said that he thought that I was just wearing the ballcap and was not going to say anything about it but something told him to speak up about it. I told him that was the "spirit" of the Wisconsin!!! Nobody just "wears" her ballcap!! We shook hands and went on our way. All this happen because I was wearing my ballcap. I wear it alot and sometimes I can see a spark in thier eyes when they see it and they give me a nod. I would hope that my marine friend at least went to the site and hopefully joined up. If not, at least I helped bring back some good memories for him. If you got it-flaunt it! Show them colors! On Wisconsin!!! Comments from Dom: So far Mike, we haven't heard from him. Glad you informed him of the website and how proud you were to serve. Keep it going Mike.

CommentsHi Dom and Crewmembers, Just a short note from the Sunshine State to thank all those that prayed for me when I had a my third knee replacement in March of 2003. After the first two, same knee, I saw a different doctor and now I'm riding my bike and getting around pretty good for being 77 years old. The surgery was scheduled to take about an hour and a half. Over four hours later the doctor told my wife "I did the best I could but it was a terrible mess." I keep busy tending to problems at our condo complex as I have been a board member most of the 17 years since we moved to Florida. We also love to play cards with friends and neighbors. Our son met us in Norfolk shortly after the "Wisky" was moved to where it is now so he could see the "Big Ship." The next year for "Fathers Day" I received a Wisconsin jacket with my name on the front. The jacket sure makes for conversation when ever I wear it. Even though I was a short timer on the ship in 1945 I have good memories. Dom and Lil you do such a great job along with all the other officers. "Thanks" Chuck Kern Comments from Dom: Chuck, glad to hear that the surgery was successful. Whenever I wear my Wisconsin jacket, someone comes up to me to talk about the ship. I wear my hat all the time, but the Jacket really gets the attention. Thanks for the compliment.
CommentsIs the USS Wisconsin in the Phila Naval Yard? Comments from Dom: No, she is berthed in Norfolk, VA at the Nauticus Maritime Center.

Great site. I printed the photo of Max and will send to him! Thanks! Craig Plymesser Comments from Dom: If any of you remembers Max, please email Craig.
CommentsHi,I have enjoyed viewing the pictures of this awesome ship on the web site. I was a CPO in the Royal Navy and during the 91 gulf war was part of the helo crew of HMS Exeter. We were at various times designated as anti aircraft and missile screen for the Wisconsin and Missouri, and spent many hours watching your awesome demonstration of firepower, the shells often passing directly over us. I just wondered if anyone out there remembers us , or even has photos of us. We did deliver your mail on or around the last day of the war. I hope to hear from someone soon. all the best to you all PH Comments from Dom: Paul, nice of you to write in our Deck Log. Hopefully someone remembers you flying over and took some pictures. Speaking of pictures, did you take any of the Wisconsin while you where up there? We would love to have copies.
CommentsOh how we miss this great Lady of the sea. Comments from Dom: I believe we all miss this Grand Lady. Don't see you listed on our email list, how about signing up.
CommentsA very nice site, I'll have to visit the ship one day. Comments from Dom: Glad you enjoyed the site, you'll love seeing the ship.
CommentsDom and Lil do an excellent job, really appreciate looking at the photos of the Whisky, you guys- 1950era -remember Capt Burrows Quite a few years back BB64 Capt. Flaherty walked into my office in city hall -his son a naval officer was in training at our nuclear installation and he would come and visit every time he was in the city. What a gentleman, when we were at Mississippi I heard he was sick--he gave me a framed photo of 64 to hang in my office. Best of Good Health to all--Gene Comments from Dom: Gene, Thanks for the compliment. You do realize that we love doing this! My time aboard the Wisconsin was after Burrows. I was aboard with the Irish Brigade, Foley, Flaherty and Patrick.
CommentsHI , I've enjoyed browsing through your pictures . I was looking for pictures of my father, Bernard Welsh, He worked in damage control in the early 50's.Could anyone tell me when he served on the Wisconsin and anything else you can think of? My father passed away 13 years ago and he didn't talk about his service . Thank you , Martin Welsh Comments from Dom: Martin, we found his name in the 1951-1952 Cruise Book. He is listed in "R" division. If anyone from "R" division remembers Bernard, please contact Martin. Martin, I have added your Dad's name to our In Memoriam page.
CommentsI was just surfing the deck log when I came across a e-mail from Joe Portuese regarding the train and tunnel that we blew up in Korea and also about a guy named Strammel. I was also a member of the Signal Gang at the time. Joe was right in his comments about the train and the tunnel but he left on every important thing out. We cruised up the coast of Korea early in the morning, we caught a train between tunnels. They liked to hold up in the tunnels during daylight. We managed to blow up the tunnel ahead of and astern of the train. It was trapped with not place to go. Captain Bruton decided that we had carried the 40's long enough and so he gave them the job of destroying the train. You need to understand that the 40's were mainly for air defense. As part of the signal gang that was off watch we were laying around inside the superstructure when the 40's opened fire, everyone came bailing out onto the the signal bridge sure that we were under air attack. It was only the 40's firing at the train. We eventually destroyed the train but the "Old Man" almost gave us all a heart attack. As for Strammel, He was probably one of the Best Signalman aboard the Wiskey at the time. He could read Light better then anyone including the Chief. He was the best all around Signalman but he had one problem, he could not stay out of trouble once we returned to port. I remember him making Third Class one day and then losing it the next day at a Captain's Mass. So much for the adventure's of the Signal gang. I am so very thankful for having served with all of them. Robert C. Simpson QM3 '51-'52 Comments from Dom: Thanks for the bit of history. I'm sure you brought back memories to a lot of our guys.

CommentsMy name is Jack Ruddy. I work for a law firm in Cleveland, Ohio that specializes in asbestos litigation. We have a former shipmate from the USS Wisconsin by the name of Donald Dunlap, BM3 as a client. Mr Dunlap is suffering from an asbestos related lung cancer. He served aboard the Wisconsin from 1950 through 1955. If anyone has any information regarding asbestos products that were used aboard ship during this period please contact me at jruddy@kelley-ferraro.com or call, toll free 1-888-839-8479 Comments from Dom: This is self-explanatory.
CommentsMy DAD commissioned the ship and I Retired onboard her in 1997 at the Portsmouth Naval Yard, The ship yard workers gave my Dad a piece of the Plank and a flag flown from the ship that morning. Comments from Dom: We don't see your Dad's name listed on our roster. Email me and give me some particulars about your Dad. dombb64@ptd.net
CommentsDamn fine job on pictures, Dom. I may have a few to send you. Comments from Dom: Marshall, nice to hear from you. If you come across those pictures, send them along. I'll scan them and return them to you. Remember our trip to London?
CommentsDom, Your website is an excellent resource for anyone interested in the history of this great ship. What an awesome ship! I took my family aboard about 2 months ago and decided to have my retirement ceremony aboard her. Lord willing, I will have an original Plankowner of the Wisconsin, Rev. Gordon Gustafson (MM1 during WWII) serve as my guest speaker. He is also a Pearl Harbor survivor, having endured the attack aboard the USS Tennessee. God has graciously blessed him with strong faith, vitality, and long life. He invited another shipmate named Cecil Hawkins to the ceremony, which is scheduled for 14 May 04 at 1300. I'm sure any old friends (shipmates) are welcome to attend and visit with Gus and Cecil. Comments from Dom: Kevin, Thanks for your compliments on our site. Good Luck on your retirement. I will email you later.
Commentsthanks for all the effort you put into this website. my family and friends would be PROUD of it. from a young american, who DIDN'T have to live it. Jack Comments from Dom: Thanks for your compliments and I'm glad you enjoyed the site.
CommentsGreat website...very well done! Comments from Dom: Thank you very much for the compliment.
CommentsSHE IS A GREAT SHIP! I WOULD OF LIKE TO SEE HER IN PERSON NOT ON THE NET. SHE IS ALL MOST AS GREAT AS BB-63. I HAD THE HONOR OF SEEING HER IN BREMENTON WASHINGTON .WHEN I WAS GROWING UP AND AFTER I CAME HOME FROM THE ARMY. TAKE CARE OF HER KEEP HER SAFE SO ALL AMERICANS CAN SEE HER IN ALL OF HER GLORY. THANK-YOU FOR YOUR TIME IN PUTTING TOGETHER SO MANY GREAT PHOTOS. DONALD R MORAN HOMER ALASKA. Comments from Dom: Donald, We are doing our best to keep the public informed of the great Iowa Class battleships. Thanks for stopping by.
CommentsI'm trying to track down my good friend David Gaston who served on the USS Wisconsin during the Gulf War. If anyone knows more information about how I can find him, please send me email: erik.leaseburg@alumni.utexas.net Thanks, Erik Leaseburg Fort Worth, Texas Comments from Dom: Sorry Erik, David is not listed on our roster. Hope someone contacts you with the information you requested.
CommentsMy dad was on the ship in 44/45, nickname was cookie or cotton, was a gunnersmate does anybody recall my dad, he passed away in 75 from war related injuries,I have pictures of the ship, he always spoke so proudly of being a Battlewagon sailor and being a former tincan sailor i know how he felt, hope to see her this summer! Respectfully William H Cook Comments from Dom: William, Hope someone contacts you.
CommentsMy father, Guy Matthews, Jr. was a sailor on the Wisconsin known as "Bonz" from Hartford, MI or Beverly, Chicago as a boy. Does anyone remember him or have any stories? Sadly he is deceased in 1996 but I know would have treasured hearing from any of his shipmates. Denise Matthews Sells Comments from Dom: Denise, I hope someone contacts you with information. If you know when he served, please email me at dombb64@ptd.net and I will add the information to your comment.
CommentsI was a crew member on Wisconsin during the gulf war. I was a part of FA Division, secondary battery, waist director 3 (sky 3). I can remember the first night of the war vividly. We were on watch at 0245 when we first heard the Tomahawk alarms sounding and the ABL started to raise. It was within the next few moments that we launched our first salvo. Not much more than 20 minutes later we were listening to BBC broadcast incoming missiles on Kuwait and the surrounding area. We fired many a support mission over the next 100 days and came away feeling as though we had done our job and completed our mission! What a wonderful time to have served MY country and been part of such a mission. God Bless USA and the awesome power of a true warship, USS Wisconsin. She will forever be fond to me. R, Mark Penrod Comments from Dom: Mark, Yes, you Third Generation guys certainly did a great job and you did it WELL!!. We salute you and thank you for serving our Country.
CommentsENJOYED SEEING ALL THE PICTURES AND WHAT A GREAT SIGHT. THANK YOU, JOHN MALASCHAK 661 COUNTRY LAKE DR. ST. PETERS, MO 63376 Comments from Dom: Glad you enjoyed the pictures and thanks for the compliment.
CommentsSad to see two old friends of mine, Louis Flora and Bob Graf have passed away. I have wonderful thoughts of them serving in the EX Division 1951-1953. I have some great pictures of all of during that stage of our life. Comments from Dom: Gorden, It's always sad when we lose former crewmembers. I also served in EX division form 1953-1956. Would love to see some of your pictures. How about joining our Wisconsin Family?
CommentsI am a HTCS, USN retired. Retired from USS Albany CG-10 a missle cruiser and ex heavy cruiser. Great site for a great ship. Many years ago, on destroyers, I spent a good deal of time chasing the BB 64 around trying to keep up. As I recall, when under full power, she could make 38 knots. My destroyer could make 35 knots so we gradually fell behind. Every once in a while she would slow so that the destroyers could catch up. Great days and great ships. I wouldn't trade the experience for a million dollars. I would do it all over again if I could but I am afraid age precludes that. Besides my wife wouldn't let me go. Comments from Dom: John, Yes, the Wisky was the greyhound of the sea. If she wanted to move, she could really move. I know what you mean about doing it all over again. I don't know about my wife not letting me do it again, I think maybe she would.
CommentsI cant find any mention of the train we blew up. The two tunnels we blocked and the train was an ammo train. How about the officer we buried at sea, a north korean. Just thought I mentioned a few things no one talks about. I also remember a fellow by the name of stramel. He was smarter then all the midshipmen we carried aboard. He had a photographic mind. My hat is off to you Stramel where ever you are.
Comments from Dom: Joe, If you
check out our History of the ship for March 15, 1952 you can read the following:
CommentsJust the big guns i was looking for! Comments from Dom: Glad we could be of service.
CommentsIt's hard to believe that it's been 13 yrs. since we came back from the Gulf. I was in FA DIV. with a number of great guys. I am looking for information on the whereabouts of FCC(SW)Wayne B. Johnson that was 1 of our division chiefs. Any info would greatly be appreciated. Also, I am looking for a copy of the VIDEO CRUISEBOOK that was made from our Gulf tour (the one with the music videos that was made). Dom, you've done a great job with this site! It's fantastic to know that we can still visit the "Ship Store". Keep up the good work and God speed! Comments from Dom: Hi Hoss, Wayne Johnson is on our email list. How about you signing up for the email list, and/or joining our Wisconsin Family. Our membership dues are only $15.00 for the year. Thanks for the compliment on the site.
CommentsFound this web-site and it has brought back fond memories of my tour on the Wisconsin. I started out as an E-1 and made it to BM3 by the time my tour was over. I'm just sorry that it took so long to find this site! Thanks for making a great Wisconsin tribute page and I'll be visiting more! Comments from Dom: Jonathan, when you come back and visit us again why not sign up on our email list, better yet, how about joining our Wisconsin Family. Glad you found the site.

CommentsYou swabbies have put together a very impressive place to learn about a great ship. I was aboard WISCONSIN very briefly while she lay in mothballs at Philadelphia years ago... had to be in 1967-8. My brother said your site was worth a visit and I have to agree. Can old communicators get into the radio club? My specialty was flashing light and flag hoist as a signalman petty officer, then fleet radio and later Naval Security Group wearing gold braid. Any of your members familiar with the floatplane units operating from the ship in the 1940? I have several contacts seeking any and all data / photos/ etc., on USN shipboard floatplane ops. Cheers and best wishes, "Flags" at NPO12@msn.com. Comments from Dom: Radio Club is USS Wisconsin Radio Club based in Norfolk, VA. Try contacting Jack Main at w4ycz@att.net Can any of you 40's crewmembers help Louis with information on the Floatplanes.
CommentsI am the great-niece of one of the Wisconsin's crewmembers, Troy Shedrick Thrasher. I am hoping to be able to find some of the men who served with him. He served during the '50s, I believe. He passed away in the late eighties and I never got the chance to get to know him. I would love to be able to find some of his mates. If anyone has any information, I would appreciate the help. Thank you and God Bless. Haley Comments from Dom: Haley, hope your wish comes true that some of your great-uncles shipmates will contact you.
CommentsYour friend and mine, Harvey Green, steered me to your web site. I have enjoyed the visit and sent info to my brother Louis B Dorny USN Ret in Seattle. Thanks for sharing so much from so many people. History of this Ship and the sailors that made her what she is is wonderful. With my respect and admiration for the service and sacrifice of those that sailed her and helped bring peace and happiness to many who will never understand the meaning of military service and the honor a country places on her military. w. brough dorny major usar Comments from Dom: Walter, Glad you enjoyed your visit and shared it with your brother. Harvey is a great guy and very loyal to our Association. and very considerate of our crewmembers. Thanks Harvey!
CommentsI found your site while searching for the Boot Camp deck log for my NON-Prior recruits. I spent about an hour reading all this and all I have to say is wow the navys changed. It seems the fact that I was born late into the navy was a major fault to me Comments from Dom: Glad you found our site. Yes, the Navy has changed even from my time.
CommentsI AM NOT SURE IF I'LL EVER GET A ANSWER BUT I AM LOOKING FOR LUIS MARTINEZ LAST I KNEW STATIONED IN INGELSIDE,TX I LOST CONTACT AND MISS HIM VERY MUCH IF ANYONE MIGHT KNOW WHERE OR HOW I CAN FIND HIM PLEASE EMAIL ME. Comments from Dom: You never know, you may get an answer.
CommentsWe would love to see or hear from old friends of ours. Take care. Comments from Dom: Tom, Emily, sure hope some of your shipmates contact you.
Commentsas a former carrier sailor, I love to see pics of them and the battlewagons. I plan on visiting the Wisconsin this summer. fair winds and following seas Comments from Dom: Yes, those two types of ships do look good together. Enjoy your visit to the Wisconsin.
CommentsLooking for a San Diego Recruit Training Command zippo lighter. If you have one please contact me and let me know what you want for it. Thank you Tom Comments from Dom: Good luck in your search for the zippo lighter.
CommentsHi all
First of all I wish you all a happy new year.
I wrote in this log on the 6 Mar 2002 that I was building a scale model of the BB64. Dom asked me to send a picture of her when the work was completed. Now I have finished the work but in stead of pictures I send you the link to my website: http://www.hh-moeller.dk On this site there are pictures of the model as well as text explaining the process and the project in general. I hope that you will visit this site and maybe list the link on your great site. This would make me very proud. Many thanks. HM
CommentsThe best web site I have ever seen. WELL DONE. I was at the re-commissioning in 1988.Also aboard BB-62,BB-63, while in commission, as a guest. Love the IOWAS! Hope to visit again someday. They belong in the active fleet! Keep up the good work. Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment on the site. We try harder!!
CommentsGreat Website. I hope that in the near future, the Navy turns the ship over to the city of Norfolk. I would love to go below decks. Comments from Dom: So do we!!!!
CommentsI was in 5th Division onboard Wisconsin from 1988-1991. I am trying to locate some friends who were onboard during the same time frame: FC3 David Fry and FC3 Tracy Stone. If anyone knows how to get in touch with either of them I would appreciate an e-mail. Thanks, Jay Barnes Comments from Dom: Jay, hope you are successful in locating your former shipmates.
CommentsGreat site! Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment.
CommentsMöchte hier mal Grüssen, bin im Jahre 1970 mit dem Deutschen Zerstörer D 184 Hessen in Norfolk gewesen.War eine schöne Zeit. My Home Page: http://bleifussjoe.beep.de Translation: I'd just like to say "hello". In 1970 we visited Norfolk on board of the German destroyer "D 184". It was a great time there.
Comments
from Dom: Thanks for visiting our site. Your site also looks
interesting. I will explore it further.
CommentsWhile visiting my daughter in Texas, we came across the Wisconsin's website. I served aboard the Wisconsin from April 1944-December 1945. I don't have a computer but can be reached at my daughters email address above , by phone at 315-245-2554 or written to: John Sanson, 2774 State Road, Camden, New York 13316. Would love to hear from any of my old shipmates. Comments from Dom: Glad your daughter found this site. Did you get a chance to look at the 1940's roster for anyone you might remember. Will be sending you some info.
CommentsGOOD JOB A WELL DONE Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment.
CommentsI was in Norfolk, VA to see this AWESOME site in person last year! And I tell you what, my first Battleship in person will be a life long memory. The Battleship Wisconsin is an amazing site to see. A must for anyone!! Makes me proud to be a American!!! I wanted to stop in and say hi. I am a big fan of war ships. I got to see the Battleship Wisconsin in person last year. And was in awe!! She is beautiful to see in person!! I am from Wisconsin and was proud to get to see this awesome ship!! Comments from Dom: For people who have not seen a battleship, she does present an awesome and everlasting sight. She is a real beauty.
The following comments were made from February 2, 2005 to December 29, 2005.
CommentsThere is only one word to described my experience and time onboard the "whiskey"... "awesome"... Looking for medical shipmates onboard during Dec 89 until September 91. I have been in contact with Jerry Schieble, Ron Rutherford, Reginald Dean, Bill Lienhop, Ted D'Amico, Melvin Fifer... as well as few others onboard during this timeframe. Look forward to hearing from some others. Comments from Dom: Kimbrough, I checked our 1980's /90's Crewmembers list, and found eight Johnson's listed and you are not one of them. We would like to see you listed as the ninth, how about it? You can do this by just asking to be listed on this list or for $15.00 you can become a paid member of our Wisconsin family.
CommentsMy father served in the Navy during the Korean War onboard the USS Kearsarge and am proud of him and all military personnel that serve our Country. As a resident of Wisconsin and very much into any kind of history regarding ships have a question regarding the Wisconsin hoping that can be answered. Many of us would love to have the Wisconsin berthed in our State but the debate is whether it could make it through the Locks or not. I have thought it was to wide to make it through. Is that true? Thank You. Comments from Dom: The ship is 108 feet wide and has a draft of 38 feet. you will have to do the math.
CommentsGreat web site. I applied for duty aboard the USS New Jersey in '68 when they recommissioned her for Viet Nam, but they said that my rating was critical (Lab Tech) and that they wanted me to stay aboard the Iwo Jima. Went to see the Missouri in Astoria, OR when she stopped on the way to Pearl, but they only allowed us on the main deck. Sorry to read that she isn't being shown and cared for properly. Hope you folks do a better job with the Wisconsin. Comments from Dom: Hi Dick, thanks for the
compliment and for stopping by. Too bad you did not get duty aboard the
New Jersey, I'm sure you would have loved serving aboard a battleship. As
for the Missouri, I went aboard her this past October and I thought she was in
pretty good shape. They have several different tours of the ship at
various prices. One of the tours takes you down to Broadway.
CommentsSeason's greetings to all. Was a crewmember on Wisconsin 1955 - 1956. Recently visited Pearl and visited the Missouri. I do hope, when ship is turned over and opened up that we do a better job at display, presentation and maintenance (!) than the folks in Hawaii are doing. They are struggling to maintain. However, the visit was wonderful many memories evoked for me. I do hope they can get resources.... We must do better when the ship is opened. Comments from Dom: Don't worry Roy, Our ship has the best group of people taking care of her now and I'm sure they will do their best when the time comes to present her to the public.
Comments

CommentsMy family and I just got back to Ashburn, VA. After a week at VA Beach, my daughter and I saw our first Battleship together, the USS Wisconsin. She's 17 yrs old. Such a magnificent ship and in such great condition. A true symbol of our great country. We'll never forget the experience. Comments from Dom: Hi Mike, I'm glad you and your daughter had a chance to visit our ship. Yes she is magnificent and you and your daughter will never forget her. For those of us who served in her, she is a part of our lives and we will never forget her.
CommentsDOM AND TO ALL MY FELLOW BATTLEWAGON SAILORS OF BB 64 ALL ERAS. HAPPY HOLIDAYS. WE OF BB 61 STILL IN THE FIGHT TO FIND HER A HOME. BOATS. Comments from Dom: Hi Boats, glad you stopped by. A
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you also.
CommentsI enjoyed your site. No, I'm not even a veteran, but I remain very glad we had these ships whenever we needed them. To me, the Iowa class battleships represent the highest level of achievement in battleship design/construction. Pound for pound, they were and remain the best in the world. Comments from Dom: Yes Doug, these battleships are something else. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to serve on one. Glad you enjoyed the site, come again.
CommentsI love this site Comments from Dom: Glad you like this site.
CommentsI heard another nickname other than the whiskey punch was "devils bomb hurler" Comments from Dom: Mark, she received the name "Devil Bomb Hurler" while she was in Korea, 1951-1952.
Comments"I was the Honors Boatswains Mate when the Wisconsin was commissioned in Pascagoula, Miss., in 1988. I just wanted to say 'HELLO' to all of the Crew of the BIG STICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Comments from Dom: Hi Freddie, you just said "HELLO" to the crew of the USS Iowa. The Iowa was called "The Big Stick", not the Wisconsin.
CommentsHello to all my name is Dan Perry my father served in the WWII, he was in the 10th division his name is WILLIAM H. PERRY. He went over the Alexander ship and came back in brazil. can you tell me where the ship at? He was a good soldier, he past away last July 2005. He was a good father. Thank you! Dan Comments from Dom: Hi Dan, Sorry to hear about your Dad. I tried to research these two ships for you and found the following on the "Brazil". http://moore-mccormack.com/SSBrazil_War1.htm As for the "Alexander", there are a number of ships with this name and I did not have the time to check them out, sorry. You can search for this Troop Ship using a search engine. I used Google, http://www.google.com/
CommentsI arrived in Norfolk in 1997 for duty onboard the USS Estocin, FFG-15, prior to her going to Nauticus. We were berthed behind this fine lady of the sea's. Every day I walked down the pier, and couldn't help but wish I could have served on her. My being from Wisconsin and being able to see her so close, made me feel a sense of pride that I was still serving our Country, even though one of the greatest ships in the fleet was inactive. I plan to go back and see her again in the near future. Comments from Dom: To bad you didn't get the opportunity to serve aboard Wisconsin, you would have loved it.
CommentsHello to all, I was just searching for information on the Wiskey Punch and came across your site. Thank you for helping me to relive some great times. I remember how good it felt to hear that I was going to an Iowa Class out of the "Green House" in Great Lakes. My dad was a 5" gunner on the Missouri and I ended up walking in his footsteps. I remember seeing BB 64 for the first time and the pride I felt, yeah scrubbing the teak was a pain but if the 5 inches didn't leak then they were broke. How many once 18 year olds remember the awesome power of a full broadside salvo or the way it felt to see the breeches fly back for the first time with the smell of hydraulic fluid filling your nostrils. Oh to be 18 again. I can't thank you enough.... Stephen Clifton GMG3 G-2 division Mount 56 Comments from Dom: Stephen, Isn't it great to reminisce your time aboard our Great Lady. I do it quite often. Have you given any thought to joining our Wisconsin Family. Fill out an application and come on aboard.
CommentsDom, great job with the web-site, it's far and away the best of the BB'S. I remember seeing you aboard ship. Best regards, Stew Rapache Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment on our site. I probably know you also. Bob Walls from your division use to come into the photo lab to play pinochle. Looking forward to your joining our Wisconsin Family.
CommentsSay Dom: Do you have any info as to when in '98 ship was towed from NNSY to Pax River for some sort of tests, and then in '99 towed back to NAVSTA Norfolk in preparation of berthing at Nauticus ?? Also in your CO list you ought to list the two OiC's after the decommissioning and tow to Philly CDR Frank B. Miller, on Decomm date, and then Lcdr Ronald F. Freeman on 10 Jan 92 until the end 31 March 92. I got to know the last CMC, as he used to sit in the wardroom, selling off what was left of ships store items, and he had the ships postmark with him and I got a lot of 'hits' of it for 31 March 92. I was there till the very last day, in the little trailer they set up in the parking lot next to the ship, and the CMC ordered some hoagies for the crew for lunch from somewhere in Philly, but they got the order on last day to secure at 0900, and CMC gave me about 20 hoagies which I took back to my shop, and gave them out. He also gave me all the books WISCONSININST, and other items which I donated to the Museum in Madison-you probably know about this. Damn I forget his name !! But I'm looking to find out where Joe Mayes PCC is-dunno if he's active in the Association though. Anybody know ???? As you probably know I did up cachet stamps and postmarks for him for Commissioning, and also did the stamp at the end too (still got it) anyone wanting 'hits' I may have some envelopes left if not I can make them up. Contact me by email...Take it easy Dom, and keep the faith..... Comments from Dom: Sorry Ron, I'm not
aware of the ship being towed to the Pax River in 1998.
CommentsHello ! I am SGT John Demas , my Father is George Kritsidimos ! He was on the Wisconsin during WW2 , sometime after the war the name was shortened to Demas . I believe he was a radioman 1st class . He turned 85 a few days ago and is in very good health ! You can email him at the above address ! Thanks ! Comments from Dom: Hi George, thanks for the info on your Dad. The information I could find on him is he was an RM1. I hope some of his shipmates contact him.
CommentsHey Dom,, Can you tell me where the expression Whisky Punch came from ? I have never heard that expression before. I have heard her called Wisky before but never Whisky Punch. Does it come form Desert Storm maybe ? MAC Comments from Dom: Mac, you answered your own question.
Name: CommentsHello Dom and members of USS Wisconsin Association and former crewmembers. Served aboard her (Wiskey Punch) during late 80's and early 90's. As far as stories go, we all have them....we lived them aboard her. Just like to finish with "Hello Signal Crew". Maybe we could hook up in the future along with former crewmembers of BB-64..BTW Mr. Menta...I will sign crewmembers log and possibly become member of Association (if my wife lets me...ha ha...)..at a later time. Have suggested this site to friends and family also... Comments from Dom: Hi James, as requested, we have
added you to our email list.
Commentslove this site !!!!!! one of the navy's finest ships a credit to her name Comments from Dom: Right On! Ralph.
CommentsHello everyone, Awhile ago I wrote a comment about my grandfather James B. Howard who was on the ship around 1951. I got a response back from a Mr. Gene Corsale; he told me some information about my grandfather and went into some stories but then all of a sudden I never got a response back. I was wondering if he was okay or if anyone else knew information on my grandfather. Thanks! Comments from Dom: Hi Jenna, Gene is OK as far as we know. Perhaps if he sees this he will contact you again.
CommentsThanks for a great website. My husband served on the Wisconsin from Dec.1950 till Feb.1953.Was on the ship in Korea when it was hit. Have pictures of it going through the Panama Canal. He was so proud of his Navy service, especially on the Wisconsin. Sadly he passed away in 1996 from ALS. Please enter his name in the Memorial Page. He'd be so proud. He was in A Division. Howard Hodgens everyone called him Buddy. Thank you so much! I'll be looking forward to seeing his name. Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment on the site. Sorry to hear about the passing of our shipmate, Howard. I have entered his name on our In Memoriam Page.
CommentsFirst time I visited this site and I think it is great. I worked on the Wisconsin when she was being built at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia. Met my husband who was a marine on board the ship when It was commissioned. We have been married now for 58 years. He was in the Marine Corps for 26 years but the Wisconsin is always close to our hearts. He is a member of the Wisconsin Assn. His name is Robert. Comments from Dom: Glad you enjoyed your visit. Thanks for the working on the Wisconsin. You are the second woman to tell us that they worked on the ship and met their future husband while doing so. Thanks for your compliment on the site and please come back and visit us again. Hope to see you and Robert in Charleston for our next reunion in September 2006.
CommentsJust a visit from Hayward Wisconsin. Comments from Dom: Thanks for stopping by, Glen.
CommentsGreat site! Comments from Dom: Thanks Terry
CommentsMy father's name is Marvin Louis Thompson. He was a gunner's mate and served in both WW2 (1941-1945) and Korea (1950-52). I am reluctant to give out his SS #. In WW2 he served on the Wisconsin during the past few years and I believe his entire duty during Korea was aboard the WI. He boxed (I think most of you guys did) and knew how to have fun. He loved his family and his country--a very proud man. Thank you so much. This is an incredible Web-site. My brothers and I will surely enjoy it. I would love to hear from any of the veterans that knew Marv--(some, including my Mom, called him Tom). Thank you again for your help and thank you for such a quick response. Comments from Dom: Thanks for your Dad's name, I
hope you hear from some of his shipmates.
CommentsMy dad was on the USS Wisconsin when I was little. That's where I took my first steps. His name is Kerry Lee Price. I was just on the Wisconsin in July. Here's my dad's e-mail. kerryprice@osco.varian.com Comments from Dom: Hi Charlotte, you may have the
distinction of being the only one to have ever taking their first steps aboard
the Wisconsin.
CommentsI served aboard the Wisky from Jan 1951 to Mar 1954.. Two cruise books were issued during this period. I had them once, but they were maliciously destroyed. CommentsJust viewed your web site and was well pleased with it. Great site. I was on the USS Wisconsin from 1944 - April 1946. Can't say that I enjoyed every minute of it. I found my picture in 3 of the photographs. I was in the CR division. The web site brought back lots of memories. Eldon R Jackson - 2638866 Seaman First Class V6 USNR discharged April 16, 1946 Comments from Dom: Glad you like the site. How about signing on to our email list. Better still, how about joining our Wisconsin Family. Fill out an application and send it in.
CommentsI SERVED ON THE WISCONSIN 1955-1957. I WAS ASSIGNED TO NO.2 FIRE ROOM. MOST OF MY SHIPMATES WILL REMEMBER ME BY A NICKNAME [SMOKEY] WHICH WAS GIVEN TO ME ON MY FIRST CRUISE. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WHO SERVED, IN B DIVISION, DURING THIS TIME. Comments from Dom: Ok you guys in B division. How about sending Smokey and email or two.
CommentsTo All Crew Members Who Were Aboard Sept.2,1945 Can any of you confirm that we were anchored next to the Missouri when the Japanese surrender was signed? I know that I stood on deck and saw the ceremony. I can't understand why historians say we entered the bay three days later. I would like to set the records corrected, can any of you help? I would appreciate hearing from any of you. Val Black Comments from Dom: Val, History states that the Wisconsin dropped anchor on Sept. 5th in Tokyo Bay, three days after the signing. Let me know what feed back you get on this.
CommentsMy father
served on the Wisconsin in both WW2 and Korea. I am one of his six sons. We have
all been in the service and are extremely proud of our Dad. Our country owes a
debt of gratitude that can never be full repaid to the entire generation that
literally saved the world. Thank you so very much. Unfortunately my Dad passed
away in 1971 at the very young age of 45. He was such a strong individual it
still is difficult to believe that he is gone. I was hoping that you could
include his name on your roster. My brothers and I constantly look for old
pictures of the Wisconsin in the hopes that Dad might be in a photo. Thank you
for your consideration in this matter and once again thank you to the entire
crew of the Wisconsin for a superb job! Number 4 Son, Joe Thompson

CommentsHi. This is a nice website for such a great ship. Does anyone know of a Allen A. Tobias that served on the USS Wisconsin in the1950s. He also served on the USS Ingersol. He was an electrician and a MP. He had a wife named Barbara Jean Alexander in San Diego, CA. She passed away on Aug. 11, 1993. If anyone can help me, it would be appreciated. Comments from Dom: A. A. Tobias is listed in the
March 3rd, 1951 - March 3rd, 1952 cruise book. He was in the 5th Division.
I believe his time aboard was from 1951 to 1952 or early 1953.
CommentsI am trying to get in touch with Tom Moran who was born around 1928 and was from Rhode Island (??). He served with my father Jim Woodyard on the USS Wisconsin in 1956 and was in division B. Thank you very much. Karyn Ellis Comments from Dom: Can any of you who
served in the late 1950's help Karyn and Jim?
CommentsYou either
loved it or you hated it! I'm talking about that great breakfast treat, S-you
know what on a shingle. Personally I liked the one with chipped beef and white
gravy but some of my buddies said they longed for the hamburger style. I have
the recipe for it. if you would like it, drop me a line on my email address and
I will send it to you. This is one way to experience the past. George

that this site was instrumental in bringing you back to your time aboard the
ship.
CommentsI was a Midshipman and made a Middie Cruise to Scotland, Denmark, and Gtmo in 1955 on the Battleship Wisconsin. It was a great cruise on one of the greatest ships ever. After commissioning, I served aboard the USS Hornet CVA-12 and made a couple Far East cruises. Thereafter, I transferred to the Navy Civil Engineer Corps. Anyway, I wonder if anyone has an accurate log of the dates we arrived and left ports on that 1955 Middie Cruise. I'm fairly certain we left Norfolk on 11 July 1955, but after that I'm at a loss for dates. Unfortunately, in those days, I took few notes and no photos. Great website! Sam
Comments from Dom: Hi Sam, I checked my notes from 1955 and these are the dates
you are looking for. We left Norfolk on July11th and arrived in Edinburgh,
Scotland on July 26th. At sea from Aug. 1st and arrived in
Copenhagen, Denmark Aug. 4th. We left on Aug.9th and were at sea until
Aug.25th. Guantanamo Bay, Cuba Aug.25th to Aug. 29th. At
sea Aug.29th to Sept. 2nd. Back in Norfolk on Sept.2nd.
CommentsI was recently in Norfolk and saw an Iowa class BB in the distance. I was told it was the USS Wisconsin, can anyone confirm that? I last saw her in the upper bay near Martinez CA. Comments from Dom: Yes Stephen, what you saw, was and is, the USS Wisconsin.
CommentsDOM WISH I KNEW WHAT'S GOING ON WITH BB 61. WAS SF CA NOW STOCKTON HUH. HAVE NOT GOT A BB61 NEWSLETTER IN AWHILE. SOON AS I KNOW SOMETHING ILL LET YOU KNOW. WELL SHIPMATES OF BB 64 ITS FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS. BOATS. Comments from Dom: Boats, I was not aware of this
change. Keep us posted.
CommentsMy dad William B. Strouse served on the Wisconsin in Division #1 during Korea sometime during 1953 to1955 maybe longer. If anyone knew my dad or has any information or affiliation with him during that time, I would love to hear from you. Dad was killed in a work accident in January of 1966, but I know that if he was here today, he would have loved this website and the association. Comments from Dom: Dena, I hope some of your Dad's
former buddies contact you.
CommentsNEPHEW OF LARRY O'BRIEN DIGGS WHOM SERVED ON THE WISCONSIN. Comments from Dom: Larry, do you have any additional
information on your uncle? Do you know what years he served aboard the Wisconsin
and what Division he was in.
CommentsJust toured the USS WISCONSIN BB64 thru your picture gallery. A most impressive ship. The pictures showed that the men were proud to serve aboard her. A job well done to all.... Having served aboard the aircraft carrier (USS ORISKANY CVA-34)during the Korean War, I was amazed at how compact each compartment was on the Wisconsin. Best of luck and happy sailing preserving the memories of a Great Lady, the USS WISCONSIN BB-64. Comments from Dom: Hi Jim, thanks for
stopping by. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Yes we were and still are proud to
have served on the Wisconsin. I'm sure you carrier guys had more room, but
we did OK compared to some other ships.
CommentsPlease forgive
my senior moments last night. I was requesting information about my shipmate and
spelled his name wrong. I am looking for Robert D. Schultz. Also I got the
Dakota wrong. He was from South Dakota. Sorry about the mistakes.
CommentsDamn fine ship,
got a chance to see her in Norfolk, wish we could have her back in action.
CommentsToo bad you
don't just have just a listing for crew members I'd add my name. Was on Board
1988 to 1989, as ET2
CommentsHaving myself served in the Navy (64-68),having two brothers retired, and three sons, two currently serving. I found this site VERY interesting and moving. This ship and all the people that served aboard her are a history lesson in themselves, they show just what this country is made of. I think the people who put this site together should be commended. I will be in Norfolk in Aug. ,for one of my sons "winging" and I plan to bring my wife to see the monument to American Fighting men and woman then and now. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK and SMOOTH SAILING.....see ya in AUGUST. Comments from Dom: Thank you Richard and all in your
family for giving up some of your precious time to serve our GREAT COUNTRY!
Enjoy your sons winging and your visit to the Wisconsin.

CommentsMy father served on the U.S.S. Wisconsin. I was able to locate him in several of your photos. He was very ill with cancer at the time of the march. He did manage to finish the trip and I know he was very proud to have been part of it. He was very proud to have been in the Navy and serve aboard the U.S.S. Wisconsin. Comments from Dom: Jonathan, was your Dad, Douglas? Glad he was able to march with us in the parade. You can contact me at dombb64@ptd.net
CommentsI just wanted my friends out there to know that I have gone to the inactive reserve after 15 years drilling with the Military Sealift Command in Pittsburgh. Of course, my best memories were serving onboard Wisconsin('88-90') in Second division. In particular, those Pascagoula days! Does ANYONE out there remember "Masters" or the "Chew, Cue, and Brew"?! Ha-Ha-Ha! Comments from Dom: Hi Daniel, Hope some of the guys contact you to reminisce about the good old days.
CommentsI have always loved battleships and tanks, it must be something about guns and armor! I love the Wisconsin, I walked on her decks in 2003 and it was awesome. We have a great navy now, but no ugly flat-top can compare to a battleship! Great Site. Comments from Dom: Mike, glad you visited our ship and felt her awesome power.
CommentsGreat Homepage, great Ship. Thanks to US for activity against the Terror and other "mad Countries". God bless you all. Comments from Dom: Thank you for your comments and visiting our site.
CommentsI enjoyed the Wisconsin website very much. I wish I knew about it earlier when my father was alive. I am in hopes that someone will remember my father. His name is Rockford "Dwight" Young. He was a BT2 on the Wisconsin from 51 to 55. There are two pictures of him on the site: page 2, #185, 4rth from the right in the back row, and page 10, #1001, the middle sailor. Do you know who has this picture? I am in hopes of going to Norfolk soon and visiting the Wisconsin myself. Thanks for honoring all the sailors! B.J Kramer Comments from Dom: Brenda, Your Dad was in 1st Div. and then in B Div. I located him in the division photos in our Cruise Books. Hopefully someone will remember him and contact you.
CommentsI have just been surfing through google and found on this site a photo of my Auntie Agnes Carlin (#888). This is amazing, we don't have many photos of my dads family so it is quite cool to see this. After I showed my dad this, he told me he remembered Ken Anderson (pictured with her) very clearly as he came to their house in Greenock. He told me Ken was from Long Beach California. If Ken would like to contact me, I am sure my dad would love to catch up. Comments from Dom: Sorry for the delay in answering your comment. Hopefully Ken has contacted you by now.
CommentsHI I AM ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE NEW BELL FOR THE SHIP. THE BELL WAS MADE AT MILWAUKEE VALVE COMPANY, MILWAUKEE WISCONSIN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT BEAUTIFUL BELL WHEN THE SHIP WAS SCRAPED? HOWARD BESH Comments from Dom: Hi Howard, the ship was not scrapped, she is inactive, in reserve, out of commission and still belongs to the US Navy. She is berthed adjacent to The Nauticus, The National Maritime Center, in Norfolk, VA. The ship's bell is on display at Nauticus.

our web site.
CommentsI hadn't checked this site out for quite awhile and am just thrilled and so pleased with how well you all have developed it. I sent you in my Dad's name a couple of years ago, he was on the Wisconsin when she was commissioned and for her first shakedown cruise up thru the end of WWII. I looked at all the pictures of the reunion and activities in 2000 and so wish he could have been there. He would have enjoyed it I think. Someday soon, I'll visit it for him. Thank you so much for what you do with this site and for all the information. Be well. Carol Comments from Dom: Carol, Thank you for your very kind comments. Please come back and visit often. I'm sure you will be thrilled visiting the ship. Even though you cannot go inside, just walking her decks is overwhelming.
CommentsMy brother-in-law Jack Talley served during the war as chief boatswain mate on the Wisconsin in the 40's he should be on the roster. Comments from Dom: WC, I sent you an email on May 21st asking for your brother-in-laws name.

CommentsMy late father is a "plank owner", (Erwin N. Corey, SK-1, 1944) and I have the Award hanging proudly in my den. I couldn't find his name on your crew log however. I would like to come out to Norfolk, and visit the ship, and actually see where my late Father worked while on board. Can you help me? Comments from Dom: Gregg, I will add you Dad's name to our In Memoriam page. Please remember that when you visit the ship the public is not allowed inside the ship. You may only walk her main deck and three decks about. The Navy still owns the Wisconsin and will not allow access to the inside of the ship. Also the ship and Nauticus is closed on Mondays until after Memorial Day.
CommentsMy Dad, 'Lon' Crisp from Mamaroneck, New York, was aboard the Wisconsin during WWII. He is alive and well in northern Vermont, but doesn't use a computer. I would be happy to pass on his address to anyone who might like to contact him. Leslie Crisp Martin Comments from Dom: Anyone from the 40's who remembers Lon, please email the above.
CommentsThis is a great website. It will take a while to look at all the photos. I am currently working on a CGI digital model of the USS Wisconsin BB-64, so I am doing a lot of research about the ship's designs, plan views, and it's original config. and reactivation history. I would like to email you some rendered image of my CGI digital version of the ship. In the future, I plan to visit the USS Wisconsin at Nauticus, Norfolk, VA. But: Why are the ship's 4 props blue-colored, and not brass colored, as seen in the Avondale Drydock photos? Is the blue stuff some sort of temporary sheathing? Greg Chin - gregorychin@prodigy.net Comments from Dom: Greg, Yes, the props are back to there brass color. Please do email me your images of the ship. dombb64@ptd.net

CommentsGreat site I just was at my brother in laws pinning on the Wisconsin. Wow that may be the coolest thing I think I have ever seen in water. Also what powers the ship and what kind of fuel. My brother in law is ensign Stansick he served on the USS Brisco prior to being an officer. Thanks great site and great ship. Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment on our site. Glad you enjoyed the pinning ceremony and the ship. Our ship is powered by eight boilers, four turbine engines and carries 2.2 million gallons of fuel oil.
CommentsGreat site and many thanks for the trouble you have taken to set it up. As a boy it was always my dream to be in the Australian navy, as I had polio at 3 guess it will always be a dream so I try to collect photos and visit us ships when they come to aussieland. Again many thanks for the trouble of setting up a great site . John Comments from Dom: Hi John, thanks for visiting our site and for the compliments . Please visit us often.
CommentsHi ya Dom, After several tumultuous years getting my life re-stabilized after a divorce, move, and career change, I have rediscovered this site. I just finished watching my copy of the video cruise book for the Gulf War and was wondering if there would be any demand for it to be transferred to DVD? My copy still plays like it did when it was new, which is to say it wasn't that good, but it hasn't deteriorated either. I'm going to do it for myself but once a DVD is burned, it should be easy to proliferate for little more than the cost of a disc, time, and postage. Comments from Dom: My copy of "Video Cruise Book" is not to good either. I am sure the guys who do not have this video, would like a DVD of it. The reason we did not transfer this to a DVD when we transferred our other Video's is because of the copyright songs/music on it.
Commentsgood site Comments from Dom: Glad you liked our site.
CommentsBT2 Worley pit#4 1989 Pre-com crew. Left prior to re-commission Comments from Dom: Thanks
Michael for helping to bring our ship back to life.

CommentsHey Dom , Just accessed the site again only to find 16 ads from Richard and Paolo. Isn't there anything we can do about that? MAC Comments from Dom: We are working on it.
CommentsThank you for your wonderful website. It is an incredible tribute to not only the Wisconsin, but all battleships as well. I am from Douglasville, GA...I am 38 yrs of age, and have a son 3 and a half yrs. I have always been patriotic, and a big fan of the battleship. But now that I am a father, I see many things through different eyes. I not only admire the ships, but feel the awesome responsibility they carried in protecting us all. I therefore wish to thank all those who took those ships into harms way to make sure their sons and daughters....and mine...would grow up happy and free! I will make sure my son learns and never forgets their sacrifices. Thanks! Comments from Dom: Christopher, Very nicely put. We need more people to feel the way you do. Come back and visit us again.
CommentsComing this weekend to see her again. I was aboard her from 56-58 when I helped to put her in mothballs I am looking forward to showing her to my wife, son and niece and her husband who is in the army stationed at Ft. Lee Comments from Dom: Jack, hope you and your family enjoyed your visit to the ship.

I just had a daughter (Savannah) in June 2003. YN1 Falkenburg is still in the Navy trying to pick up "Chief". We still keep in touch after all these years. Thanks for asking about me. God Bless! CommentsGreat site, it is a tribute to all who serve. Comments from Dom: Thank you!
CommentsI AM PROUD TO SAY THAT IT WAS ONE OF MY GREATEST PLEASURES TO HAVE SERVED ON WHAT I CONSIDER THE FINEST SHIP THAT SAILED THE OCEANS. I HAVE SOME GREAT MEMORIES OF MY TIME SERVED ABOARD THE U.S.S. WISCONSIN. IT TOOK ME 45 YEARS TO FIND A HAT WITH HER NAME ON IT AND I WEAR IT PROUDLY. Comments from Dom: Hi Frank, My feelings about the ship are the same as yours. I wear my hat and jackets proudly.
CommentsWe have browsed the website once again. Have downloaded some of the information to keep, especially the info on the Tour of the ship to give out to friends interested in seeing her in Norfolk. You are doing a superior job on our USS Wisconsin Association Website. It is very thorough and so interesting. Keep up the good work! Comments from Dom: Carol and Marty, thanks for the kind words, and thank you both for all you do for this Association.
CommentsI very much like your site and the site of www.battleshipwisconsin.org . Having lived in Wisconsin from 1987 to 2000, and a frequent visitor to the state since then, and having a deep respect and admiration for those who served on the Wisconsin, as well as all those, including myself, who now or have served in this nation's armed forces, being able to see her on her own web site is truly wonderful. If the people of Norfolk ever decide they cannot support her, I am quite sure the people of Wisconsin would love to her berthed on the shores of Lake Michigan. Take good care of her, as she is a beauty! Comments from Dom: Thanks for the kind words and thank you for serving this GREAT country of ours.
CommentsHI SHIPMATES: IF ANYONE KNOWS THE WHEREABOUTS OF A SHIPMATE NAMED WALTER B. or P. GUNTHRIE or GUNTHRE THAT SERVED ON THE SHIP FOR JUST A SHORT TIME, I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD CONTACT ME. THANKS, MARTY GM3 TURRETS 1 &2 . Comments from Dom: Can any of our 1950's crewmembers help Martin?
CommentsThanks for a great sight I saw my father on HIS ship for the first time in my life and it was AWESOME THANKS AGAIN YOU PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE. Comments from Dom: Hi Albert, thanks for the website compliments. Glad you found a picture of your father. Can you E-mail me, Dombb64@ptd.net with the year and picture number?, thanks.
CommentsHad the privilege of going aboard a few years ago and enjoyed it immensely. You have a great website. Comments from Dom: Thanks for the website compliments. Glad you enjoyed your visit to our ship.
CommentsMy dad servered aboard the "Whiskey" during WWII. He died in 1980. I am very proud of him. His name was John H. Gates. I have never seen the ship in person, but I plan to see it in the near future. thanks, van gates vghillbillycat@aol.com Comments from Dom: Any of our 1940's shipmates remember John? Please contact Van if you do.
CommentsI was stationed onboard Wisconsin from 2-88 till 10-91. I precommed and decommed her. i was a signalman Comments from Dom: John, I don't see your name on our crewmembers list. How about joining our Wisconsin Family?
Comments50 years ago the last BATCRULANT golf tournament was held at the NOB golf course in July 1955,A72 hole event with golfers from BBs & CAs in the Norfolk area, the number of entries are unknown but I do remember that there was between 7-10 from the USS Wisconsin, and we won the team trophy and I won the medalist trophy and I am going to send it to the association to put in the display section, myself being in poor health and having it for 50 yrs ,I know it will be in a safe place, before I sign off I'd like to tell a story about the tournament, I was a SN in K div 19 yrs old and only played golf on sand greens before entered the USN, I was leading the tournament going in the last day and was playing fairly good when all of a sudden my nose started to bleed and after 5 or 6 holes, nose still bleeding I was told to quit and go to sick bay I refused, because I wanted to win for my ship, weak and determined to win I finish tied for first place and won the tourney on the first extra hole..... Comments from Dom: Larry, I see you were a determined golfer. Congratulations on winning the trophy and looking forward to receiving it.
CommentsI feel very blessed to be a member of the BATTLESHIP FAMILY! However I'm not on the swift boat to bring her back! When I was a young SN onboard the WISCONSIN the hair on the back of my neck would stand up when shot the BIG GUNS. Starting out a SN in the powder flats I worked my way to the powder hoist operator. We as a crew in the powder deck never felt 100% sure of the equipment that we had to use. We were using powder bags that were 40 to 50 years old!! not knowing how or where it had been stowed away for that many years. After the Iowa explosion NOBODY WANTED TO GO BACK TO THE GUN TURRETS. We were scared to death, that it would happen to us on the WISCONSIN knowing about all the old equipment we had to use. You wouldn't send a F 14 TOMCAT with a 1945 bomb attached to it!! Please don't put your heart before common sense! We do not another "GLIMPSE OF HELL." If we are going to put the BATTLESHIP back in service lets equipped her with appropriate ammunition of 2005 not........ 1945!!!! As we did in 1989. BM3 Bruce McNeil T-2 center gun powder hoist operator Comments from Dom: Bruce, from what I understand, the explosion on the Iowa, was not due to the age of the powder bags.
CommentsThanks for the pictures i've had them for some time and its fun to look at them now and then. I was aboard the wisky from 51 to about 54. Comments from Dom: Glad you enjoyed the pictures. I'll be putting more on soon.
CommentsJust checking the ship's store for items. Comments from Dom: Hope you found what you were looking for.
CommentsMy father, Lyle R. Summers is a plank owner of the USS Wisconsin. He was so very proud to have had the opportunity to serve aboard the USS Wisconsin. He served from 1944-1946. He often talked about the ship and her crew members. He did attend several reunions. Dad died in Oct of 1994. I now have the memories my father shared with me. Thank you for the great website, L. Roger Summers (ADJ3 USN 1961-1965) Comments from Dom: Hope this site has given you visual to the memories your father instilled in you. Thanks for your time in the service.
Commentswhere is my dad? Martin F.Sant Comments from Dom: Not sure what you mean. Our crewmembers list is NOT a roster of the ships compliment.
CommentsR.I.P. pop we love you! Comments from Dom: We miss Frank also.
CommentsVery Good site!!! Good to know Wisconsin will live on in our history. Comments from Dom: Glad you enjoyed the site, come back and visit again. We are trying our best to preserve the history of our Great Ship.
CommentsI was searching for the surname "Duso" for my family history and was happily led to your wonderful site. I felt moved when I read the way your reunions go for the lost comrades. I noted Oscar Duso, FA but no years so I don't know what that meant, nor if he has anything to do with my family name, but I did enjoy my surfing and wish you all the very best from "Downunder" - NSW, Australia. Comments from Dom: Welcome to our Website and glad you enjoyed it. Sorry I can't help you on Oscar Duso.
CommentsWell I decided to look at a few of your pictures. Now its 5 hours later I have seen them all and it was worth every minute. What a fantastic set you have, some are breathtaking especially the 16 " gun shots. May I congratulate you its been great and it is the best war site I have been on. Comments from Dom: Thank you
so much for your compliments. What makes this site so great, is the
dedication of the former crewmembers who have shared their personal
photographs for all to see and enjoy. I thank them, because without their
input this site would be a very dull web site. Thanks guys, you really are
the "BEST" and I am glad to have served with you!
CommentsWhat a great ship and what a waste It should be where it was built for sailing the seas with the carriers. All the best great site Comments from Dom: A lot of people feel as you do.
CommentsI found a Photo of my Dad in your archives. It is wonderful to see him so young and vibrant. He was the finest man I have ever personally known. He raised his 6 children lovingly and in return was loved by all of us. He told us many stories and expressed the camaraderie he felt for his fellow sailors. We all root for the Navy in our family. Thanks for the memories. Comments from Dom: Rosemary,
that was a very nice compliment
to your Dad.
CommentsTHANKS FOR A GREAT SIGHT I SAW MY FATHER FOR
THE FIRST TIME ABOARD HIS SHIP WHAT A FEELING HIS NAME IS
OGELEVEE C MEADE ONCE AGAIN THANKS Comments from Dom: Glad you found your Dad. Do you know what Division he was in and what years he served aboard.
CommentsMy time on board was only two weeks, but she is still my favorite command. We repacked the propeller shafts at pier side in Norfolk. Work was also done on #4 Thrust bearing. Have pictures. Comments from Dom: Robert, only two weeks aboard and mother Wisconsin got into your system. She does this all the time.
CommentsJust read through the 2004 deck log and found the comments of Falkenburg and Battista. I remember the scuttlebutt of the Saudi wanting to pay us for the services and our dedication etc... Supposedly this is no scuttlebutt; MM1 (Now MMC(SW) Groves in the Engineering Log room where I worked at the time actually had a copy of a check that the Saudi's made out to the United States. Seems like it was for something like 1, 10 or 100 billion dollars. I know there were at least 12 to 15 zeros on it. I am unsure if this was real or a joke; but it sure looked real to me. I am unsure how to locate MMC Charles Groves now but I am sure he is retired somewhere. I never understood why civilians could go to Saudi and work for 6 months or a year and make hundred of thousands and we were making barely enough to by groceries and rent. I left my phone number on my previous comments of today. I will be checking back to see if any more information is available. Scuttlebutt was that Charlie got the copy of the check from the Chief Engineer, but I don't know where he would be either. The older I get, the more awesome my friends and shipmates become. You guys were my family and I will always have a special place in my heart for all of you. God's Speed. Terry Comments from Dom: Anyone have additional information on this subject?
CommentsJust trying to contact some of the admin guys. Haven't heard from anyone since James Chamberlin and Cyrus Best called a year or two ago from overseas. (479)229-9946 or my cell @ 479-453-1116. Where's Falkenburg, CAPT Underwood, Chamberlin, Best, and the rest? Comments from Dom: Terry, three of the four names you listed, are members of this association and have e-mail address. Click on the "Crewmembers" button at the top of the page to search them out. If you were a member of this association we could give you their snail mail addresses.
Commentsoutstanding!!!! bravo zulu!!!! Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment.

Name:
CommentsI have been in the Navy close to 16 years now and I have never seen a site as OUTSTANDING as ours. I have not been able to make to the reunions because of operational commitments, but my thoughts and soul have been with you all. I have a little over 3 years left (unless I make Chief) and I will be joining a FANTASTIC organization as ours to make sure our legacy continues for our future Sailors and Marines to preserve.. God Bless and God speed to all of our Sailors and Marines still abroad fighting for democracy in Middle East Nations. Comments from Dom: Hi Don,
thanks for the site compliments. We understand why you can't attend our
reunions, at the present time you have more important work to do, and we
thank you for that. We all wish you good luck in making CHIEF.
CommentsHello My name is Michael and I am 46 years old and I live in Necedah, Wisconsin. I just wanted to let you, know that my dad was Sailor on the Battleship USS IOWA 61, back in 1950. Would like to hear from you if at all possible. Comments from Dom: Michael have you listed this request in the Iowa's Deck Log on their site? I think you would get a better response from them. www.ussiowa.org
CommentsU.S. NAVY all the best. Comments from Dom: Thank you Heather
CommentsFANTASTIC SHIP!!!! Comments from Dom: That she is!
CommentsIt was a honor to view this site. My father, Alexander (Sandy) Murray, MM2C, served during her first cruise from 16 April, 1944 to 15 October, 1945. Sorry to say but he passed away in 1976 long before anyone thought something like this site would one day be available. It is great to see the old photos, who knows, I may even find him there someday. Coming from a old Navy family, I went on to serve in the Seabees with two tours in Viet Nam, my son served 6 years in a sub. Once again, I can not tell you how moved I was to find this site. God Bless! Comments from Dom: Art, Thanks for the compliment on the site. Please check out our In Memoriam page. I have added your Dad's name. I hope someone from our 40's era remembers your Dad and contacts you.
CommentsI am planning to come to Norfolk,VA. the end of this month, and want to bring my family to the WISCONSIN. I have not seen her yet my self, my wife and I have been on The North Carolina, and I have been on the Alabama. What are the hours the ship is open and cost to come onboard? We are coming from Almena, WI. to Ft.Bragg to see our daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids. Comments from Dom: The first thing is that neither the ship nor Nauticus is open on Mondays. Since the ship still belongs to the Navy, the public is not allowed inside her. You can walk her main deck and three decks above, free of charge. If you want to visit the Nauticus Museum, there is a charge for that. You can get more info by clicking on Nauticus Maritime Museum. Enjoy your visit.
CommentsI'm an Air Force guy who works on F-15's so i've seen some very interesting things, but what I would give to see those 16 inch guns fire, AWESOME! Comments from Dom: We have it on our video "Veterans Farewell Cruise1991" You will see and hear the 16" guns fired for the last time. Go to our home page, scroll down and click on DVD Gallery. It is quite an experience.
CommentsA big hello to all my former shipmates. Quite by accident, I met former shipmate Jerry Goldstein and he told me about this site and I am happy he did. If any one is interested and doesn't have it, I have the Decommissioning booklet and would be happy to send a scanned copy. I also have pictures of the bow of the Wisconsin and the Eaton after our minor traffic accident. I was a Radioman but I don't remember what division I was in so if anyone can help me out with that I would appreciate your sending it. Comments from Dom: Jack, I think you might have been in OR Division. As for the collision, have you checked our page on this incident? Click on the Pictures Page and scroll down to Collision. Looking forward to your joining our Wisconsin Family.
CommentsYour site is very nice. Comments from Dom: Thanks Ronny.
CommentsI am looking for anyone that may have known my Dad - Howard J. Hodgens - EN3 - He served on the USS Wisconsin - He was on it in Korea when it was hit. Any stories/info would be appreciated. Comments from Dom: Anyone from the 1950's who may remember Howard, please contact Nancy. He was in A Division.
CommentsTHE CADILLAC OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN, THE RED SEA AND ANY OTHER BODY OF WATER, THIS WAS AND STILL IS THE MIGHT ONE THE WHISKEY OF ALL SHIPS, MAN I WAS SUCH A PLEASURE TO HAVE BEEN A SHIPMATE ON THIS SHIP. FIRING 16'S FOR TWENTY FOUR MILES WAS AWESOME. I WAS IN SUPPLY, FIRST IN S-1, THEN S-2. A FORMER MILITARY POSTAL CLERK. NOW I AM DISABLED, BUT I LOVED BEING IN S-2. IT WAS AN EXPERIENCE I WILL NEVER FORGET. PRIOR TO HER DECOMMISSIONING, I WOULD GO TO THE PIER AND SEE IT JUST SITTING THERE, THEN I WAS OFF TO PATUXENT RIVER MARYLAND, WHAT A NICE PLACE ,BUT NOTHING LIKE THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS, THAT WAS A LIVING HEAVEN. THANKS DOM FOR THIS SITE Comments from Dom: Hi David, sure hope you are feeling better at this time. Thanks for your history aboard the ship. This site is here for all former crewmembers to come back and reminisce about their time aboard this great Lady.
CommentsYou folks have a great site here. The pictures and information contained herein are remarkable and fun to read. To hear the music and sound effects certainly makes a true American proud. One can feel the devotion, love & fidelity the crew members felt for their ship and shipmates. The debt owed by my generation to those who served and fought in all branches of the serves is tremendous and they are to be hailed as hero's. Many thanks to all the men/women who served on board the USS Wisconsin (BB-64) Comments from Dom: Glad you enjoyed the site and thank you for your comments. We really appreciate hearing all the nice things about our site and our ship.

CommentsJUST RETURNED FROM A VISIT ONBOARD THE SHIP THIS PAST TUESDAY. BEEN 4 YEARS SINCE LAST VISIT. SHE IS STILL AS GREAT LOOKING AS ALWAYS. GREAT JOB BEING DONE BY THE CURRENT CREW KEEPING HER SHIP SHAPE. DOES MAKE ME FEEL GOOD TO BE ABLE TO VISIT HER FROM TIME TO TIME Comments from Dom: Perry, I was just aboard her on Sunday, Feb. 20th. You're right! She still looks great and ready for sea duty. Thanks to Capt. Mary Mosier, Operation Manager and her crew for taking care of our Lady.
Commentsmyself thomas trudo AO usn na,james riley DC usn na,charels cunningham usn na, and kennith tucker EN usn na.we've all survived in the navy at one time or another, we are making a scale mock up of a battleship. we had made a few cannons that fired firework artillery shells, and some one said why not make a ship? the problem is we are all sailors but none served on bb's. we are searching with no success to find technical drawings of both sides and top view of the uss wisconsin bb-64 .pictures, and paintings don't have enough detail to make the mighty 16's,and other details. we would appreciate any help you may have to offer. thank you for your time. tt,jr,cc,&kt ps for more info on our project contact thomas at icrff2968@yahoo.com again thank you. Comments from Dom: Good luck on your project. At the moment I don't have the drawing you are looking for. If I ever come across anything like that I will contact you.
CommentsAs a Naval reservist in 1958, I went on a one week cruise aboard the USS. Wisconsin out of Norfolk, Va. A short cruise, but interesting. We got caught in a Typhoon while at sea. A few life boats were lost overboard. Comments from Dom: Any of you that were aboard prior to the decommissioning remember this cruise? I left in June 1956 and in my time aboard went through a few storms.
CommentsRefer to 1950's Page 8 photographs 896-901. I was in Lowry at Norfolk when we picked up your liberty party that couldn't return because of foul weather. They stayed on board our tin can overnight before the weather allowed us to transfer about 200 sick hotel sailors back to you by highline. No matter what we did to make their stay comfortable, they were extremely happy to get back on board Wisconsin. Comments from Dom: I was aboard the Wisconsin at that time. One of the guys that came back aboard kissed the deck, he was so happy to be back on a steady ship. One of them said, if he ever got transferred to a destroyer, he would go AWOL.
CommentsThis web site ROCKS!!! I gotta send some pictures in sometime. This is one of biggest ships in the known universe man! I served on this baby from 1987-1989.I had the chance to actually go through almost every compartment of this ship when it was being overhauled at Pascagoula, and man is it HUGE. It would take about 24 hours to go through it if it were all accessible. I really had some good times on this ship, and met a lot of great people. It was my job to run the automated remote-controlled Gun-director/radar transmitters via the spa-25. The radar transmitters all had an upgraded tracking system installed in them which I also worked on. The gun-director I worked in, sky-4, actually shot down a drone target, which wasn't to bad considering the computer we used to track it. I remember the ship shootin' off those guns all at once off one side and feeling that ship roll, thinkin' it would take a tidal wave to make that ship roll like that!!! Truly a remarkable ship which will probably never be created again. When manned she had enough people to fill a small city. Latez... Comments from Dom: Thanks for the compliment on the site. You're right, she is a huge and powerful ship! How about signing on our email list?
Commentswhere are my boys from 3rd div Comments from Dom: Christian, how can they contact you. You didn't leave an email address. What era did you serve?
CommentsThis is a great tribute to everyone that served on this great ship. My grandfather (Donald Stewart) was on the ship 4 years (1950-54) "B" Division. He was in the Korean War. Looking for anyone who might know him or remember him.I posted a picture on the website. Would love to hear some stories about the "B" division. Great Website! Comments from Dom: Samantha, we just returned from SC. Will get your grandfather's picture on the site as soon as possible. Anyone who remembers Donald Stewart, please contact Samantha at the above email address.
CommentsI'm not a serviceman, just a naval enthusiast. I'm glad to see that a warship bearing the name of my home state has had such a distinguished career and is so loved and respected by her crew past and present. Keep up the good work, the site is great. Hope I get to see her up close some day. Eric Comments from Dom: Thanks for the site complement. We were proud an honored to serve aboard this great ship.
CommentsMy father was on the Wisconsin in WW2. William Anderson Stewart. I enjoyed seeing your WEB Site. He had many stories. Comments from Dom: Thanks for stopping by and enjoying our site. Actually we don't really have a navy... ;) Greetings and respect to everyone from Switzerland. Mike Comments from Dom: Hi Mike, thanks for stopping by and thanks for the complement. Please come again.

it!!! My father served on the Wisconsin but I cant remember what years. He

JWilson992@aol.com.
He was the USS Salem's gunnery officer until 1959 and retired in
1960. Thanks again, Jay Wilson

CommentsSH3 1988-1991 USS WISCONSIN CURRENTLY IN NORTH CAROLINA WOULD LIKE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH CREW MEMBERS Comments from Dom: Jon, I
hope you hear from some of your shipmates.
CommentsGod bless America Comments from Dom: I second that statement.
CommentsThe first time I saw the USS Wisconsin when it was tied up to a dock off the Westside Highway in New York during 1957. But, that wasn't the first time I came into contact with her, that was in Korea in 1953. Couldn't see her, but she was shelling the Chicims opposite us. Her shells came in sounding like the 3rd Avenue El. She was shooting right over our heads, I'm glad I wasn't a Chicom on the receiving end. John Carter Comments from Dom: John, I'm glad I was behind those guns when they fired and not on the receiving end.
CommentsGreat! Comments from Dom: Thanks and come back and visit us again.
CommentsWonderful site, Dom. If anyone has info on William Hamilton (Pete) Hale, I would appreciate it. He was my grandfather and very little is known about him. I'm looking for anything no matter how small. Stories would be great, too. Thanks! Comments from Dom: I hope someone remembers Pete contacts you.
CommentsGreat pics, that mighty battleship must have been awesome to be around when those big guns let go. All those great ships showed Americas might for sure. Thanks for all the info. Comments from Dom: To answer
your question,"must have been awesome to be around when those big
guns let go.", check D.C. Copelands remarks below.
CommentsGreat ship. Great site. Your unexpected cannon blasts scared the living **** out of me! Keep up the great work. Comments from Dom: Hi D. C.,
