Following is an email I
received pertaining to the USS Wisconsin BB-9 ship’s bell
Dear Sir,
I'm ex-Navy
and a resident of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. In the news I read of our city is
constructing a new firehouse and placing an old bell in the tower. I
spotted the bell one day and on closer look it turns out the bell is from the first ship of the fleet to carry
the name WISCONSIN. I've included in this mailing several
photographs of the bell with the hope that you might include them in your
newsletter so that your members might assist the campaign to
save this bell and place it in an appropriate setting. I've contacted our
state's veteran museum and they have your ship's bell and would like to
have the first Wisconsin’s bell inside the capitol building. I've also
written the local Navy League with the request to assist this important
mission. I respect firefighters and they need a bell, but please not just this
one. Let us honor the sailors and Marines from so long ago by saving this
bell. Please give me a call or e-mail for more information of U.S.S.
WISCONSIN BB-9's ship bell.

In my email to Greg, I informed him that our ships bell was
donated by the state of Wisconsin to Nauticus on
December 7, 2000.
