SICKBAY
We have had a number of emails from SuLayne Cox
wife of
Ken Cox,FC3 GM Div. 1988-1991 advising us of the
following:
July 9, 2007
Hello to all,
This is Su Layne
(Ken's wife) and I am sending this to everyone in his address book (that should
explain the duplicates). Ken has been in the Shreveport Louisiana VA
hospital for over a month. He is in ICU, is critical, but stable.
He has had 3 feet of dead intestine removed, has 2 ostomies,
is on a ventilator, is medically sedated, has a 3 foot open incision, and
has an NG tube out of his nose for the excess
fluids. He is expected to make a complete recovery, but that it will be a
SLOW process. He is expected to be in ICU for a month, with rehab
afterward, and a possible lengthy stay in Louisiana. Prayers and
stubbornness should make his healing process easier. On a positive note,
he did open his eyes and respond to the nurse by squeezing her hand and
wiggling his toes. He is driving them all crazy with kicking his
feet and legs off of the bed. When I put his leg back in the bed and told
him that if he dropped it again that I would put it back
on.........................you know what he did. We played catch a leg
and wiggle the toes for the 30 minutes I was with him. He also opened his
eyes when I said, "hey handsome", but he furrowed his brow and kept
them shut when I called him a knot head. I know that this is probably too
much information, but since so many of you live so far away I thought you
needed to be well informed. Keep us ion your prayers. I have put an away message on his
e-mail until September 1, 2007. If he comes home sooner, I will take it
off. If any of you have questions feel free to e-mail or call me at SuLayne85@aol.com and (903) 658-1803.
I am between the hospital and our house.
Thank You
SuLayne

After looking back at the last 3 years with Ken, I realized that
several times he has thought that he had cancer in his colon or pancreas.
He had gone to the doctor several times for this, but they found nothing.
According to his doctor..........................Kenneth's liver isn't
processing all the fluids that it has been given, thus a blood clot near his
pancreas, inflamed intestines(becoming 3 ft of dead ones), that eventually
perforated. He was given a lot of blood thinner to decrease the
inflammation, a lot of pain medications, antibiotics, and then they realized
what was really going
on in his body. His blood pressure dropped and his pain was so
bad that he was begging for an NG tube(nose gas tube)
or surgery. After the surgery he was touch and go. On this
Wednesday morning, the nurse began to fight his blood pressure dropping, his
CVP (something to do with internal body pressure)below
good numbers, and he was draining a lot of fluid. After checking the
incision they noticed that he had burst two of his
sutures causing body fluids and waste to into his body cavity.
With the liver not functioning correctly the fluids could not
escape in the correct manner.
Today, after massive
amounts of prayer, the doctor put him on a wound vac
that suctions and reroutes SOME of the body fluid. I also
noticed that he is not on pain medication, sedation medication, blood pressure medication. This will allow the
doctor and nurses to see what the fluid is like in his body. There
has been little to no response since being in ICU; however, tonight I let his
daughter speak to him on the phone (he is still on
the vent) when she hung up he opened his eyes and moved his head
toward the ear where the phone had been. He has
tried to talk. When Ken would kick his feet off the bed I
would tell him not to do that and he would stop. If he was completely
asleep, when I moved them I would ask him to bend his knee and he would.
He even went so far as to bend them straight up with his foot flat on the
bed. I believe that God is letting him realize that he can be loved
unconditionally. I know that this year has been full of losses with our
pregnancy and now this, but Life is good and God is Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those that have been
so great to ask how I am, I am TRYING to gain strength from my friends,
cousins, and my wonderful M.I.L. and P.I.L (maw in law & paw in
law-------according to P.I.L). For those that know me you
know exactly how I am. I am ---------------Fine. You know when
the crisis is over-----------------I will lose it. I didn't want to be
strong anymore! I asked God on several occasions throughout the
last 10 years to allow me to be weak. I have always Had to be STRONG (it is in my lineage). I am
learning that it is okay to lean on others, to let others help, and that I too
can be loved. God is mysterious. Keep praying for us and I will
continue to keep you informed of any discovery or recovery.
Let's go PRAYER WARRIORS!
Su
Layne Cox
SuLayne- Our Prayers are with you and Ken. Hang in there.

Andy Murphy wrote to
Dick Hamann telling him that he was burned out of his
apartment a week or so ago. He escaped
with nothing but the clothes on his back.
I have Andy’s cell phone number if anyone wishes to speak with him.
