MARCH 7, 2001
Gun Range Dedication Ceremony at Great Lakes, Illinois.
A brand new gun range at Great Lakes Training Center was commissioned as the “USS Wisconsin BB-64 Gun Range”. Carl Capestrain, our President, along with Dave Patrykus and several other Association Members attended the ribbon cutting ceremonies. Our Association presented Rear Admiral D. Polatty with a plaque commemorating this event. It is an honor to have had them pick the USS Wisconsin as their gun range namesake. After the ceremony, Association members and wives were allowed qualify on the new range with the Navy’s current sidearm, the 9mm automatic. I understand that they didn’t do to badly, either. Lunch was then served at the Recruits mess hall. The event was coordinator by GM 2 Al Weber of Hartford, WI, an instructor in The Recruit Training Command.
